Default This weekend I upgraded my C302 hard drive wit

This weekend I upgraded my C302 hard drive with the Hitachi 60GB 7200 rpm drive--this thing is flaming fast! What a HUGE difference! I am very happy with the investment. [thumbsup]

I purchased the drive from pcconnection.com for $177 shipped. I used Norton Ghost 9.0 to snap shot each partition and then restored it. Never skipped a beat, total time: 1 hour.

I plan to ebay the old 4200 rpm drive.

I used the instructions on this web site to install the drive--they were a great reference (just search the forums).

Just thought I might drop a note...

What are you doing for backups?

USB enclosures for 2.5 inch hard disks (is that right?) are darned cheap, when I looked last, partly because the actual disk is darned expensive. If you don't have a plan for WHEN your new disk fails, think about this one.

Of course if manufacturing quality is similar then you expect the old disk to fail first, but who knows?

I have an external 120GB USB drive that I use to image my home and tablet computer.

    Good idea though!

I too just put in a new 7200rpm Travelstar. I was trying to decide whether to buy an external for storage, or buy the Travelstar and an enclosure, and decided on the latter. Got it, the enclosure, and a 1 year warranty from bestbargainpc.com.

Didn't have Norton Ghost, but then again, I didn't want everything on the old drive on the new one anyway, since the OS was starting to act up. Got almost everything running good now, it is a pain trying to copy things from "My documents", since the external won't let me open them without me moving them to the "Shared" folder. Bah.

What lulls me into a blissful sense of complacency is that I haven't had a disk failure in years. My last two Sony computers, and a ten year old Toshiba my wife picked up second hand are still going happy and strong. Makes me want to ignore the obvious.
