Hey, welcome SC! I grew up in So. Cal. (Orange County, CA). Try your local Circuit City, they should carry one. Also, you can try Fry's since they usually have some good technology available. Microwarehouse in Santa Ana may also carry the tablets (way back at the start of the PDA world they had the latest -- that was when I was in college!) Also, some Costco's have had the Averatec tablet. This would be good to look at for general tablet form, but don't buy it!! They have had a lot of problems.
Truthfully, when looking at tablets, the biggest decision is whether you can spend the money. They can do the same things as laptops, depending on the configuration (I use a convertible at home for this reason) but have an added advantage. So, if you are looking at a laptop vs. tablet, ask yourself if handwriting recognition is worth the extra dollars.
