What program are you using to record the lectures? OneNote?
I have the M1400 and I have been using it to record my class lectures but the recording quality is terrible. I have checked to make sure the microphone is turned up and I have checked to make sure the microphone is set to wide angle but still the recording quality is very low. In a small room at a table with about 8 people I can hardly hear the lecture--there is a hum (when the mic is turned up to high) and there are weird distortion noises. If I turn down the mic level to reduce the hum then I can barely hear what I could only slightly hear with the mic turned all the way up.
Does anyone know what the heck this is; is this normal; is this reparable?
I've got a tiny palm Tungsten T and the recording quality on that is like 10 times better. No lie.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Elliott

Yep, OneNote.

Then try increasing the audio format quality under Tools/ Options/ Audio and Video/Format...
Exactly my notion.
I found my audio recording to be OK in OneNote, except that I jot down a lot of notes while I am recording, so you constantly hear the stylus tapping the screen.
Anyone else notice this?
Rsp57 Thanks a lot...that was it! I'm so comp-illeterate. I haven't tried it in class yet but I tested it out and I've got the stylus tapping sound that chris was talking about--music to my ears at this point..I'm such a dork.
thanks for all the help!

Hello,
The reason you are getting poor quality and hearing the pen taps is because when you select wide setting you are disabling the acoustics software such as:
- Array Processing or "beam focusing" feature which removes all sound outside the configured “audio cone”
- Noise Suppression removes background & ambient noise
- Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) prevents feedback of speaker output
Using a directional Mic. could help.
