Do you have access to a Windows XP CD? You could probably run the recovery routine from there, at least if it has SP2 on it. In fact, you could just do a reinstall in that case and reformat the drive if you don't have anything of value there.
hi everyone. i have a tc1000 i bought off ebay and when i did a restore to an earlier date, i got stuck with a windows password. i cant get into the computer anymore. the old owner wont even tell me it. he says "its his password for everything"...
anyway, i researhed the forum and ended up buying the plextor cdrom drive that boots directly for the tc1000 so i can run the recovery cd
now heres the problem...i dont have the recovery cd.
i called hp and they said my warranty is expired. so does that mean i have to buy the recovery cd's?

Lame Ebay seller! I hate it when that happens. The CD you need isn't just a recovery CD, it is a full version OEM OS cd with Tablet 2005 and SP2. At least that is how my TC1100 is and I would assume the restore CDs included would be the same. Finally a laptop manufacture and MS got smart and gave a cd that acts like tne OS disk it should be and not a GHOST. At any rate, you can't get just the Windows XP Pro with Tablet Edition cd readily. It is pretty easy to get a copy from another tablet user (but I am not willing to do that). I guess the seller really didn't "lose" the disk, he just "forgot" to pack it. As such, unless you can get the disk from the seller, you are SOL. You could get a retail XP disk, but it won't have the tablet edition.
There is one other Driver CD that comes with the tablet. However, it is less of an issue. The whole 300+ MB disk can be downloaded from the HP website.
I would surely let this experience reflect in the seller's feedback. If he can't help you unlock your tablet, that is his problem that he left his "universal" password to figure out. Hmmm, the possibilities. Unethical, yes, so I don't codone it, but it makes for some good blackmail. Especially when you use the phrase "bank account password."
Just my thoughts:D
I ust thought of something else...Microsoft has a validation routine on their website now that is causing you to validate your version of windows prior to downloading any software. You have your valid MS code under the battery of your tablet. You could call MS, explain the situation and that you are helping to combat Piracy. They may help you purchase the Windows XP Tablet OS again, leagally, or get you intouch with HP so at least you are a satsified customer and would like to promote HP products in the future...like on www.tabletpcbuzz.com [:P]
Just a thought.
i got no other cd's with the computer. i have been sitting here for hours trying to make up passwords...its useless. i dont know what to do
is there anyone who can possibly burn me a copy of the recovery cd's? or maybe send me the image files of the disks online? there is no other route i cant even get into windows...
or if someone with a warranty is nice enough to let me use their serial code to get the disk ordered to my house?
i know its alot to ask, but theres nothing i can do im in a tight situation...
adnanm3,
I believe there may be a way to remove the passwords from your machine. I suggest you call HP Technical support and see if they can tell you how to perform the password removal. Even if your tablet is out of warranty perhaps they will allow you to purchase restore cds.
It's a shame the seller did not include the cds for you and even moreso they password protected a machine they were selling.
yeah ill deffinitely give them a call tomorrow...but untill then, if anyone else can help me wit the cd's please le tme know. id be glad to pay for shipping...i really dont want to pay $50+ for disks that i should have for free...
or if anyone wants to get them sent to my house with their warranty...
thanks guys
Hmmmmm!!
I don't want to start a whole flood of replies suggesting passwords for you to try, but - have you ever read "The Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy"?
If not, in it you will learn that the answer to life, the universe and everything is 42, or rather - fortytwo. (Fourtytwo if your spelling is not so good).
I know it's a ridiculously long shot, but I was wondering if he was getting some sort of perverse kick in giving you a clue when he said it was his "password to everything".
adnanm3,
Where are you located? It may be possible that another buzz member is close enough to you to let you use their CD. I suspect most of us are reluctant to just make a copy of our CD and send it to you, but would be glad to help out in a case like this if we can.

I purchased my TC1000 off Ebay and didn't receive the recovery disks either. I called HP and ordered a set. They cost me $9.00
