Is there such a thing - I mean something very tiny and light, either bluetooth or USB that I resembles something that would be more for a PDA....available just in case we want to type something in with keys if we are using a slate only tablet?

It would have to be really small and light, for occassional use only... I have searched but haven't found anything yet.

I searched forever for this too and never found one. Until about a day ago. It was first posted on the Yaahoo Sony U group, and I reposted it on a few Sony U forums (handtops and jkontherun), I'll repost my message here:

"As alcuin2k (nice find man!) posted on the Sony U Yahoo Group, he's found a small USB thumb keyboard that will work with the Sony U. It's actually designed for the PS2, but works with WinXP with no additional drivers.

Lots of pics in this thread: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=41136

The guy who bought it got it from EB Games, who is out of stock online:

So you'll have to go to an actual EB Games in your local mall to see if it's in stock there. However, it's also sold online here for $1 more than from EB:

Obviously since it's not designed for computers it's missing a few comforts and keys we might otherwise want (control, alt, etc) but the mp3car thread's very useful if you get one. It's got a key remapping utility posted, so you can remap the higher F buttons you never use (one guy did F6->Win-Key, F7->Ctrl, F8->Alt, F9->Del,F10->Escape).

Maybe not the best or the way we'd have designed it but with not many other options available, and for only $22 including shipping, it's well worth it IMO!"

I cannot thank you enough for posting this - I am ordering it as soon as I finishing typing this note - I can certainly live with remapping some of the keys - it just looks like it might come in very handy, especially while being a passenger in a car, or something similar.

    Thank you so much!

Moderators, please consider posting this as a sticky!!

    No problem. :)

My hope is a similarly sized one (I'd accept slightly bigger cause that thing is tiny and THIN) with a few more keys and maybe bluetooth would come out. Although that would likely cost $150, so this is fine with me for now. :D

Hopefully anyone interested can find this with a search for thumb keyboard. :)

I have been searching for quite a longtime for the Sony U-series keyboard as a separate accessory for a slate tablet. Of course if there was bluetooth it would be even better. Having an integrated trackpoint device in such a compact format makes it very appealing for slate owners.

While at the local EB Games yesterday to pickup a game for my grandson's birthday, I picked up one of these. Price was only $14.99. Simply plugging it into a USB port gets it working. I'll need to play around with remapping some keys however as the "symbol" button doesn't work out of the box.

Fitaly is terrific, but it has to be learned.

I don't think that little thing allows ten-finger typing ;)

I received my keyboard from GameExpress (ordered Saturday, very fast shipping) today and was immediately operational when plugged in. Even though its REALLY small, the typing works well for casual use. Its a great accesssory for slates especially.
