Haven't seen a post on this subject yet, and didn't see it covered in the Fuji docs either.

Has anyone experienced battery drain on their IR keyboard if it is stored such that one or more keys is depressed for a period of time? It would be nice to know whether the keyboard has auto shut off if this happens. Otherwise, I need to remove the batteries before I throw the thing in a briefcase. I'm thinking about operating on it to add a simple on/off switch, but don't know if that's absolutely necessary.

    Any suggestions?

I initially had the same keyboard concerns and I've not seen anything about an auto shutoff. For the first 2 months, I travelled with the IR keyboard leaving the batteries in while in transit. I did not see any degradation in the keyboard performance.

For this last month I've rarely used the keyboard - primarily using the Fuji in the slate mode.

I've had the Fujitsu since late December and have had the same set of batteries in the keyboard from day 1. (But like Twills I mainly use the computer as a slate.) I have travelled with the keyboard a number of times and have never removed the batteies.

This is a topic that has bothered me because our Help Desk will begin supporting "uneducated" tablet users. I have some related questions that aren't answered in any documentation that I have seen:

    1. When the batteries in the keyboard drain, is there a "Battery Low" indication given anywhere?

    2. When a user calls saying that the keyboard doesn't respond, is there any troubleshooting that can be done, besides "Can you install fresh batteries in the keyboard?"

Having asked these questions, I guess it's obvious that our users should have spare batteries available at all times.

Any help, based on previous experience, is appreciated.

I am not sure this is responsive to your question, but a "problem" I had with the IR keyboard was that some keys appeared to be unresponsive while others worked OK. It turned out that the scroll lock key was toggled. Without a status indicator it was not obvious this was the case. Contacting Fujitsu service, before I discovered the problem myself, resulted in a "replace the batteries" solution. Certainly, an inexperienced user might fall into this "toggled" key trap.

on my Toshiba Libretto L5 and the Fuji, there is no Caps or Num Lock indicator. I have been using a SW utility TogglesIntray from

    http://www.anibisoft.com/

It puts an icon in the Task Tray that gives an indication of caps and/or num Lock on or off.

I ran a test to see how the keyboard would respond to a 'stuck' key.

I brought up Microsoft Word, then held a letter key down on the keyboard. The letter repeated for exactly one minute, then stopped. I repeated this test several times with the same results. This leads me to believe that the keyboard has an automatic time-out feature after one minute of constant key activity.

Anybody else have the same experience?
