As far as the RAM not fitting with the battery - many TC1100s were manufactured with the RTC battery sitting where the user accessible RAM goes. Place the battery where it should be and route the cable accordingly. That is, tuck it under the edge of the RAM/MiniPCI compartment next to the main battery, behind the back edge of the miniPCI slot. If the RAM you tried works, use that, the battery must be correctly positioned for any RAM to be added to the user accessible slot.

I've used Kingston (1GB) Ram in my TC1100 with no problems.

I got my Kingston PC27oo 1 Gig RAM totay and installed it. What a difference between the PC2100 that I was trying out and the PC2700.

I read the back of the Kingston box and it says that all PC2700 systems are backwards compatible with PC2100, so it is confirmed by a second source that you can use the PC2100 without any worries. That is what I had been doing for the last few days. Now I have the PC2700 and the system is up to par.

By the way, I ordered from Outpost.com on 28 Feb 05 and they said there were out of stock. A new shipment was expected on the 7th of March, but it was already presold. They took my order anyway for the subsequent shipment. Well, good fortuan because they already sent me the memory. Fast shipment and outstanding price. After rebate, $205 with shipping add tax.

Clueless here again... My tc1100 is running 512 RAM and killing me. I need to upgrade. Are these the right things?? What is the difference and what do I need for my 1100?? If I am totally off can you give me a specific part number.... I am a computer novice and know NOTHING!! (but I looked inside my 1100 last night! whoo hoo.... felt so tough!) lol

    Thanks!!

    AmyJ,

All you have to worry about is that the memory is PC2700 and SODIMM. The ones in your post are DIMM meaning they are for desktop. The DIMM means Dual Inline Memory Module. The SO meand Small Outline. So make sure you are getting the Small Outline because it would be pretty hard to cram the desktop memory into the laptop memory slot and still have the RAM work :). The desktop memory is about twice the physical size of laptop memory.

One more thing, stick with Kingston or Crucial. Micron is the parent company of Crucial or vice versa so you are getting the same brand essentially. There are pretty good prices for 1GB PC2700 these days. I picked up a 1GB Kingston module from Newegg.com for $125 shipped a couple months back. Nice price.

I Have two GB of RAM in my TC1100 and I don't notice much difference over the 1.5GB for everything I do. I was performing Matlab simulations that would run for 6-8 hours a pop and it ran the same as with 1.5 GB. Incidently Matlab is more memory intensive than CPU intensive for my applications. So before you go and get that second Gig, think about how much you feel you need it. Just my opinion from my experience. The computer still takes 2-3 minutes to start up and then a couple more for me to log in.
