How/where do you install it? Does it void the warranty?
Hey everybody with an 802.11b Intel Mini PCI card.
I purchased the following card and upgraded to an 802.11g!
Cost was around $30 w/ shipping.

Then upgraded with the following driver (not the Intel Pro wireless software! driver only!)

My wireless connection transfer rate now shows 54mbs! It was around 11mbs with the 802.11b.
How/where do you install it? Does it void the warranty?
I think the warranty is 1 year. So my warranty is up already. You should check though. Always save your parts in case you want to put the old one back.
As for installation: I unscrewed all the screws on the back (and take the battery out). Then lifted the back panel off. It was a little sticky near the fan. The heat seems to have melted the insulation a little.
You'll see the mini PCI card in the middle of the board. Disconnect the two antenna wires and remove the card. Gently of course.
Install the new card and connect the 2 antenna wires. Replace the back cover. Install the driver.
That's it.
I would bet that because you have to open the case to install the new card that the warranty would be voided...just a thought :P I bet there's even a sticker on the back that says something about it.
