    The factory-installed hard drive is a Hitachi 4200RPM, 2MB Cache, 2.5" 9.5mm drive.
I had replaced mine with a Toshiba 5400RPM, 16MB Cache, and I must say that things were quite zippy. I speak in the past tense, because I have sent it back and am back to using the original drive.
The reason I did this was that I was worried about the excessive heat the drive generated, and the speed issue isn't really that big of a problem for me.
However, that said, it was more responsive. The speed improvement was a little better than the new CMS update. But it got almost as hot as when plugged into AC power.. The air that the fan blows out is almost always "cool", but with this drive it was "quite warm".

I posted my thoughts in an earlier thread titled "Toshiba 4019GAX 5400RPM....." a month or so ago.

The 60 Gig Hd that comes with the tc 1000 is available for sale. I think it would make a "safe" upgrade. After installing everything I use I still have 17Gig of 30Gig free so it might be a while before I upgrade (a bigger cache would always be welcome)

That 60Gig HD's only advantage is more room. It is the same speed, has the same cache, and the same data transfer rates. The 40GB HD, however, has a SLOWER data rate... so don't get stuck with that one.
