The factory-installed hard drive is a Hitachi 4200RPM, 2MB Cache, 2.5" 9.5mm drive.quote:Originally posted by lecco
no I have not done it yet, but am pondering the performance gain that can be achieved by such upgrade. Does anyone know how fast the original hd spins?
I had replaced mine with a Toshiba 5400RPM, 16MB Cache, and I must say that things were quite zippy. I speak in the past tense, because I have sent it back and am back to using the original drive.
The reason I did this was that I was worried about the excessive heat the drive generated, and the speed issue isn't really that big of a problem for me.
However, that said, it was more responsive. The speed improvement was a little better than the new CMS update. But it got almost as hot as when plugged into AC power.. The air that the fan blows out is almost always "cool", but with this drive it was "quite warm".
I posted my thoughts in an earlier thread titled "Toshiba 4019GAX 5400RPM....." a month or so ago.
