Default Hi folks, Frequently I need to print things out

    Hi folks,
Frequently I need to print things out that are signed - what I currently do is open the printer control panel, change default printer to Journal, print to journal, sign it on the screen, and then print it to hard copy, and lastely change my default printer back.

Is there some kind of quick utility that will help me do this more efficiently in terms of changing default printers?

    Thanks,
    Trace Curry

What application are you printing FROM? From within the application you are printing FROM, you *should* be able to go to FILE , PRINT and then have your choice of all available/installed printers.

    Hi cellsaver,

Essentially you and Rob are both changing the printer to receive the print job. You are selecting a printer and making it your default printer, then printing and Rob is selecting and then printing.

Alternately, you can insert your signature in the document that must be signed and not concern yourself with printer selection either way.

I do not know of a utility that allows quick printer selection. I would <CTRL> P and select the printer to receive the job.

    Hoping this helps...

I am printing from within an Electronic Medical Records program. The program uses the default printer and does not bring up the option to select printer. Also, I have to sign prescriptions and such in the proper place, so just inserting my signature won't work.

    Thanks,

    Well Trace,

I do not have a solution at this point. I have a database program that only prints to the default printer. So, I understand. I will see if I can find a utility for the quick switch. In the meantime, another member may give a solution.

    cellsaver,

If your EMR application only prints to the "default" printer, can you set the "Journal" virtual printer as the default? (I do this so that when I'm on visiting networks, I don't accidently print to my default printer on my home network (getting queued, and prints out as a surprise when I get back).

Yes, I could set journal to be the default printer, but I print a ton of stuff, most of which does not need a signature, and it is very cumbersome to do it this way.

    Trace,

    Perhaps this will work: http://www.microblast.com/printswitch.htm
I have not tried it. It looks promising from my reading.

It is activated from the systray. It has a 30-day trial and sells for $12.95.

Maybe this is the solution that will work for you...

    Hello Trace,

I have installed MicroBlast Print Switch for Windows on one of my systems. It works; and, I believe, may what you are looking for.

Yes - this is exactly what I'm looking for, although $30 is steep for such a utility!
