    Hi,
I have a 40 Gig drive and want to get a Seagate 100 GB at 5400rpm. I think I heard of a device that you can put your old hard drive into and use it as an external hard drive. Is there such a device for use with notebook hard drives? And assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    S. Wellman

Yes! Search around ebay for hard drive enclosure. There are many brands of enclosures and most use a USB 2.0 interface. I picked one up for $11 shipped brand new just two weeks ago.

Make sure you are getting a case specifically for Laptop harddrives. It would indicate, "made for 9.5 mm drives" or "2.5 inch drives."

    Good luck.

If one is not found on ebay...You can find the enclosures at most computer stores - bought mine at CompUSA

    Try this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...155-701&depa=0

I got one for my extra drive and now I have and additional 30 gig of external storage. I found another one on sale for $9.00 with free shipping and put a 10 gig drive in it.

If you buy the Apricorn EZ Upgrade USB2 kit you can exactly clone your current OS to the new drive using the software CD and 2.5" USB housing and after swapping drives use the housing for your external drive.

If you get the one from CompUSA,
and you use the MultiBay cable,
    you can power it.

    I've used a lot,
and this combination is the best.
