Default Because of some trouble with Outlook I went back

Because of some trouble with Outlook I went back to a restore point about 24 hours ago. When the system was trying to shut down it stalled for a long period of time. after awhile I figured I was going to have to use the power button to shut down, which I did. Upon booting up I got the following error message...

Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (Could not open SQLEVN70.RLL). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct his problem.

I have no idea what an SQL Server is, nor how I would go about uninstalling it, nor how I would re-run setup. I am at a total loss as to what this message means.

After I clicked OK I was able to log onto Windows and I was informed that the system had been restored to the point I had selected.

I decided to reboot to see if I would get the same message again. I did. I can access the internet, and so far I don't seem to be having any trouble, but if I keep getting that message on startup it is going to drive me crazy. Any ideas?

By way of explanation here is the reason I went back to a previous restore point. I had not yet used Outlook and I wanted to eventually sync with a Pocket PC so I decided to create an account so I could install Active Sync and have my contacts on both machines. (I use Yahoo as my mail client.) I copied down the information from my laptop where I have Outlook configured even though I don't use it. I knew these settings worked with my mail server because I have downloaded mail to test them. Everything went as expected with the Account setup, but when I was asked if I wanted to use Business Contact Manager with the account I said, "Yes." I changed my mind within minutes because I realized that I didn't need the functions of the Business Contact Manager, and I was afraid that I would create problems syncing with my Pocket PC if there was information the Pocket PC didn't expect to find. In hindsight I realize that I probably should have figured out how to disassociate the account with the Business Contact Manager, or I could have deleted and recreated the account without associating it. But I was in a panic, and took a more severe action removing the Business Contact Manager altogether through add/remove programs. When I opened Outlook and tried to view the address book for my account I got an error message, which I didn't write down. The message told me that there were problems with a folder and I could find out how to delete it by reading the help files. I wasn't sure how to solve the problem and decided to restore to an earlier time. Isn't that what restore points are for? After the restore I found the Business Contact Manager back in my list of programs to add/remove. I opened Outlook and I was given an opportunity to create an account. This time I did not choose to use Business Contact Manager with the account. I can access the address book with no problem and I am not getting any error messages in Outlook so far.

But I am still plagued with the SQL Server message every time I startup. Aside from this message everything seems to be working okay. What IS as SQL Server and should I be worried about it?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

By the way, before restoring I did use the Office Installation CD to repair my installation. It said it had successfully completed the repair, but I will still getting the error message about the address book. I figured if the repair didn't solve the problem I needed to restore.

Did I miss it in your posts? Have you tried a repair install or simply re-installing Business Contact Manager? I'm thinking that BCM may be using the SQLServer desktop engine as it's backend database and *that* got damaged somewhere in the process.

I tried the repair on Office. The Business Contact Manager comes on a separate disk. I didn't put that disk in to repair, only the Office Disk. I will try putting in the Business Contact Manger disk and see if I have an option to repair. Thanks.

I just tried to repair/reinstall Business Contact Manager. After I clicked the button to continue I got the same SQL error message. I clicked OK to that error message, and got this message "Business Contact Manger for Outlook 2003 was not installed. The wizard was interrupted before Business Contact Manger for Outlook 2003 could be completely installed. All changes made during this process were removed. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click Finish to exit the wizard."

So I can't reinstall nor repair, and I have no idea how to get rid of the error message on startup.

    Terri,
Can you uninstall BCM using Control Panel, Add Remove Programs?

    Hi Terri,

At this point, I suspect a part of BCM is loading at start-up. You can use msconfig to browse your start-up group and unselect the suspicious call or start-up in the safe-mode to see if the error is gone. If so, again -- msconfig. You may also turn all start-up group items off, reboot and see if the error is gone. If you turn all off, then you need to note before hand what was on, so you can go back to that point.

    Terri,

Did you change the name of your computer at some point in all of this?

I guess I should try that. I will do a restore point first. It was removing the Business Contact Manager in the first place through Add Remove Programs that caused the problems with the address book in Outlook. Of course that was when I was trying to use an account that I had associated with the Business Contact Manager. The present account was never associated with it.

    I'll try it.

No. The name of the computer has never been changed.
