Does anyone know if the C300 is bootable off an external USB or FireWire hard drive? Doesn't matter if it's Tablet PC edition, I'm just thinking for backup purposes.

Mingo,

The answer will lie in your BIOS as to boot options that are available to you. Boot occurs before the O/S loads, so the ability to boot is not related to the installed operating system. Of course, here you are looking for verification for someone who has done so [USB or firewire]. They will chime in shortly. I wanted to give information that fits most systems. I tried it, but had some issues. I had a hard disk with a working copy of Windows on it. I put it in an external USB enclosure, and set my tablet to boot from it in the BIOS. It did start to boot, but then died part way through, and rebooted.

I couldn't get my C300 to boot from either USB2 or firewire, even though external drive booting was selectable in the bios.

But since the C300 hard drive is so easy to swap out (two screw panel) I simply used Apricorn's Easy Clone USB2 drive enclosure and software to make the backup clone drive that can be physically swapped out with original in seconds if ever needed.
