    Hello all,

Well, I had reported that the new docking station had solved my USB disconnects problems...

I take it back. It started happening again. HP/Compaq shipped out a new docking station and mini-PCI WLAN card. The Wifi disconnects are less frequent, but the signal strength is still pretty poor compared to my Dell and Cisco PC card WLAN cards and my Socket CF Wifi card. The USB devices still drop off the new Docking station when under a heavy CPU load.

The the HP/Compaq tech said they are aware of the problem and that they first try to swap out the docking station to rule that out as the cause. He said they are working on a 'ROM' update for the TC1000 that should solve the problem. I assume this will be a BIOS update for the TC1000. He said that it is being worked on and tested right now and the fix will be available from their website in a few weeks/month. He also said they were working with Microsoft on a fix for the wireless issues.

So does anyone have these problems under Linux or any other OS? Is it really software problems???

Month?! Ohh good lord... this is kind of weird. I´m not willing to go with the TC1000 unless they solve these nerving problems :(
I want them to sell me a working unit for my money, not a construction kit.

Sorry, but I´m a little bit angry about these issues...

Just be happy that they're supporting and fixing all your problems, including giving you free WiFi card swap outs and free replacement docking stations. I'm sure they care much more about these problems than you do. It is, afterall, their device, their reputation, and their sales figure.

when you add up the total units sold then compare w/the posts here, things look better As for me I have had my TC1000 for a month And everything WORKS

And As mentioned HP provides better than average Support

    mrose,

I ran the update, then ran the "tour-ture" test as described in the thread http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/to...REPLY_ID=11669. There was no change regarding the USB ports being dropped.

I still think the problem is there and it will take the ROM update as has been described in a thread here recently, and at the thread above.

    Optamistically,

I have 2 TC1000's with docking stations and most accessories. Both units have keyboard USB drop problem, especially on docking. Always have to unplug and replug in USB keyboard to get it to function and USB hub does not fix the problem. We have not had drops on the wireless or mice. Unit docks tight to the station and maintains good connections. Newest transmeta update (Feb) added and though the units are noticably faster, the USB keyboard problems still exist. We are waiting for the ROM update compaq/HP is talking about. We are using these two units fairly heavily and they are evaluations before we release more company wide. There are still to many issues we have noticed with them to distribute on a wider basis. But I really do like the units and hope several of the issues we have noticed will be fixed. We talk with compaq regularly.

    Hi folks,

Any further update on this from compaq about the frequent USB disconnection of the mouse and key board from the docking station. Any news about their new BIOS update? I dont think I will make a purchase till I'm sure this problem is solved.

There is a workaround for the USB disconnect problem that was reported in the earlier, much longer thread.
HP engineers have narrowed the problem down to the USB 2.0 driver from Microsoft. MS is aware of the problem and is ostensibly working on a fix.
In the meantime, you can disable the offending driver and your disconnects should disappear. You will get a message about having 1.0 devices plugged into 2.0 ports, but you can just click it off and go on. Since I've done this, I have not experienced ONE disconnect, so I believe it to be a valid "fix." Before that, all I had to do was plug my mouse and keyboard into the docking station, and I would eventually get a disconnect.
WITH THE TC-1000 UNDOCKED, you need to go into Device Manager and DISABLE the USB controller titled "NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller (B1)". You will not be able to disable this controller unless you are undocked.

    Hope this helps.

I use a Microsoft USB wireless natural keyboard and mouse plugged directly into my tablet and never have a problem. I don't have a problem with WiFi either.
