Default Hi, I see that many online stores have the TC

    Hi,

I see that many online stores have the TC1100 as discontinued. Is it a given that there will be successor? I was considering buying a TC1100 but if there is a new one in a couple of weeks, it might be worth the wait. I like the small form factor of this device. The Toshiba Portege is a little too bulky.

    Cheers
    Adrian

There will be a successor. It's going to take at least 1-3 months to phase out the older tablets but that will only occur after introduction/mass production of the new one. The transition will probably be similar from the TC1000 to the TC1100.

The 915 chipset supports PC2700 and PC3200 DDR memory but capacity is capped at 2GB. The Centrino package may include either the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG or 2915ABG cards. PCI Express, Gbit LAN, x16 Graphics, and TV Out.

it also means you could pick up a bargain on a TC1100 in the coming months

Well, I'd say its time to stock up on the extra batteries! One thing I hate is having a hard time picking up extra batteries on discontinued old hardware.

I've been meaning to get an extra battery or two, and a DVD drive for the docking station.

Told by a sales person from HP couple days ago, they are gonna have a new tablet in a week or two with the latest Intel chipset. And the rest such as the screen, dimension, ports, Wifi etc will remanin the same. They are basically putting a new chip in the old frame, of course some improvement should be expected like DDR2 support, PCI express, gpu........ So battery or docking shouldnt be a problem in this case.

You should have asked about a 9-cell 60W/Hr lithium ion battery and if there's going to be an indoor/outdoor screen.

This sounds like a good move ... as long as pricing levels do not increase too much.

However, they should also be looking to upgrade the graphics chipset to (at least) 64MB of RAM.

You know, this raises a good question... Just how long should a PC maker expect its customers to wait between upgrade cycles, and do the PC makers expect customers to "incrementally upgrade" for $2,000???

If HP is just trying to keep the product competitive and expecting us to upgrade every other upgrade cycle, then the current strategy is probably OK. I will probably upgrade to the TC1300 if it has 1.5+ GHZ, 128MB of VRAM and a card two generations removed from the Geforce 420go. This is my minimum.

Screen resolution could remain the same, if the digitizer quality improved along with external monitor support (higher rez, DVI port with dongle supporting analog VGA and SVIDEO)

Accessories would make the unit even more attractive. Bluetooth headphones for one!!! Some innovations in TPC case design would also help matters.
