Default Hi Everyone, I recently started having displa

    Hi Everyone,

I recently started having display issues with my Compaq TC1000 Tablet PC. Specifically, it's stuck in low resolution mode and has vertical lines running up and down parts of the screen. I'm also getting the following error message "NVIEW load error, no NVIDIA hardware detected on the primary monitor".

The system will not allow me to access monitor properties, and I've had no luck with updating the drivers. I called HP/Compaq tech support and it was suggested that I need a new motherboard.

I happened across this forum and thought I would give it a shot to see if anybody had any ideas. Also, if it is the motherboard, could anybody ballpark a cost to fix and give me an idea if its something I could replace on my own (I'm not overly skilled with the PC but like to tinker with things).

    Thanks in advance...

    Bill

It does seem like you have a hardware problem of some kind.
Unfortunately, only HP would know how much the motherboard would be, and no, it is not something you can replace yourself.
I would have thought it may be more money to replace than the TC1000 was worth, but ask HP for a price.

Thanks for your reply Woody. It looks like I might have an expensive paperweight on my hands.

It certainly looks that way, but it is worth asking HP how much it would cost you, maybe they do them cheaper than I think. I had the motherboard replaced twice (as they messed up the first time) by HP, but that was under warantee.

Thinking about it, didn't the TC1000 have a 3 year warantee anyway? Have a look by the serial number to see if it says '1 YR' or '3 YR' just after it.
If it is a 3 year one then it is almost certainly still under warantee (you don't have to have bought it new - they can check).

    Hi bbalicki,

Before giving up on your hardware, allow the O/S to reinstall your video display driver. You can delete the driver, using the Device Manager, in either the Normal or Safe Mode. Restart the O/S. The drive will then be reinstalled. You can also force a driver update from the Video display adapter manufacturer. Doing either of the above may well take care of the symptoms you are seeing.

    Jim, Woody -

Thanks again for your advice. My computer is out of warranty, so I'll end up paying out of pocket if I decide to fix it. I haven't yet had time to contact a service center for an estimate.

Jim - I did try what you suggested. Letting the O/S re-install the drivers appeared to work initially, but after I went to change the monitor settings I was right back where I started. Arrrgghhhh....

    bbalicki,

Since reinstall worked until you made "display" [versus monitor?]changes, you have clearly identified the culprit. Check to see if you video adapter manufacturer has an updated driver for you adapter. If so, install it and you may see better results. If not, force the install of a new driver from a clean inf file.
