I have read the posts on this forum concerning the various CD ROMs or CDRW/DVD units that many of you have.
My question is this. If I ghost my Toshiba what is the reason that I would want to be able to boot off of the CD ROM drive? I really want a CDRW/DVD drive that is bus powered and for some reason the PCMCIA drives are very expensive. I can get a USB2.0 Storix CDRW/DVD from Best Buy for 200.00. I realize that the Toshiba will not boot from this but I am not sure if I will ever need to boot from the CD drive. I have had many Laptops at work and I have never had to reload one that couldn't be done from the Ghost image.
I can pick up a USB floppy drive for the boot device to start the network session for Ghosting the system for under $50.00.
Any thoughts would be helpful. If someone can come up with a reason that I have not thought of please let me know. Also let me know what brand of drive you have along with connection type and if it is bus powered.

One problem with your procedure. If the Toshiba won't boot from a USB CD it's also not going to boot from a USB floppy. So you wouldn't be able to use that to start the network session for Ghosting. That's the same idea I had but according to the techs in the Toshiba support forum the 3500 won't support booting from a USB floppy either.

Tricky states that he has in fact booted the Toshiba from a USB floppy drive. He has used this configuration to boot from a floppy and ghost up to his network. It is my understanding that a floppy drive is the only bootable device a Toshiba will recognize from the USB port. Everything else must be PCMCIA.
Richardl also states that he has booted from a SmartDisk usb Floppy drive on the Toshiba.
I also noticed that the floppy drive that Toshiba is selling is USB.
I must admit, however, I have not tried to boot from a USB floppy myself.
I really wonder if you can boot from a floppy and have access to a ghosted image why you would need a bootable CD ROM drive? I keep wondering if I am missing something here as everyone seems to want a bootable CD ROM drive.
