Thread: I am using Copernic Desktop Search to search all

Default I am using Copernic Desktop Search to search all

I am using Copernic Desktop Search to search all files on my Motion 1300. I haven't been able to figure out all the file extensions that I need to tell it to index for Journal and OneNote. I think .jnt is one such extension for Journal but I could use help on any others for these 2 programs. Copernic is fantastic as a way to instantly "google" my whole tablet and I really need to figure out how to include OneNote, Journal and maybe PlanPlus.

I've searched through archives and help files but can't find an answer to this. Thanks for any help with this.

If you want to check out Copernic it's at www.copernic.com and it's free.

    Good Morning Pat8,

You can find the application that is associated with a file type by opening the Files Options Dialog [Run Windows "Explorer"; select Tools & Folder Options; then select the File Types Tab]. There you will see a list of file extensions and the associated application.

    Please see an example below:

I'll be interested to see if Copernic is capable of searching within these file types. If it works, that would be great; however, I'm wondering if each application (and in particular, PlanPlus) doesn't do something with the files that will make it difficult or impossible for Copernic to index them. I'd add Onfolio to the list, but I imagine that there's at least compression in that app that will get in the way...

Please let us know how it goes...

I've been playing with this a little this afternoon. I don't have it totally figured out yet but here's what I've found so far. Copernic finds things in both Journal and OneNote if they are typed text. It found items in my imported pdf files, in screen captures, in web clippings notes. They won't show up in the preview pane, but their titles and dates show up in the "found" area and you can easily tap to go to them. It will even find a handwritten word if it is in the title area of either application.

That's all I've had time for so far.

I haven't used Lookout but my understanding is that it searches Outlook - I don't know if it searches the rest of your hard drive or not. As for X1 and Google, I tried both and found that Copernic found more files than either. If you google these you'll find lots of helpful reviews, and comparisons.

Just found this, http://www.goebelgroup.com/desktopmatrix.htm, which has a good comparison table of all the current offerings in desktop search.
