I also find it tricky, with the same result you are experiencing.
Must be to most under utilized button on my tablet. Personally I find it near an impossible to press the center of the multifunction button to reliably get an "Enter" instead of on inadvertent "scroll". Is it just me, or do others find this button tricky to use?

Good'O, So I am not Robinson Crusoe. It is not a biggy. Just that if enough people have a similar experience Motion may want to take it into account with future models.
Yep!
So, does that mean we are pretty satisfied with everything else?
I think the M1400 is a solid machine. My issues are more software [BT; sound (volume too low, no BT connection--I wish I did not have to go to the Dashboard to turn off BT to have sound again); voice input bubble, no provision for PCMCIA (CF Card) boot], than hardware. But, this thread is about the multifunction button.
Place your thumb over the whole of the button and apply pressure straight down. Works almost everytime.
More or less Jim. But how dare you hijack my thread ;) Trev , whilst it does work when I conscientiously ensure a vertical button press, it is this requirement that is (in my opinion) the problem. Further to my frustration with it is when reading magazines in Zinio I want to scroll a page I press the down button & inadvertently get Enter resulting in Zoom instead of next page. Palm had a similar problem when they replaced their 4 hardware buttons with a multifunction rocker on the T3. After negative feedback they have brought the Separate buttons back on the T5.
logger,
My experiences are exactly the same as yours, even to the Zinio Magazine Reader.
I even tried Trev's suggestion and get mixed results. Maybe, I'm not able to equally apply thumb pressure to the switch.
Maybe it's just the two of us.
Nope, I have the same problem.
Now, there are 3 of us.
Make that 4 of us.
