Has anybody seen a software program to control your HI-FI, TV etc from your tablet using the IR on the tablet?

I have seen programs for the Pocket PC and even my calculator, but not for the PC.

Mine doesn't even have a IR port.

From what I read, however, it's a different kind of IR port, and it's tougher to do. But, you could load a pocket pc emulator, and then run it from there.

Pretty soon all those components are going to have built in 802.11 and a linux OS, so you'll be able to do those things across your network.

I'm interested in hearing what solutions people have found, specifically for controlling an HTPC (home theater PC) from their tablets. My quick-and-dirty solution is to use vnc to control my HTPC from my tablet, but it's not a terribly elegan solution. Ideally I'd like to be able to browse movies, create playlists (for sequencing trailers before the movie), and have in-movie pause/ffw/rew/etc control without having any of that UI show up on the projector, just on the tablet. Anyone have a good solution?

Nevo is able to interact via IR (at least version 1, 2 may have more options) using customer IR or something like that.

You could also use a digital media player which streams from your pc (server) and you could turn the tablet into the server but that would .. suck. Battery issues and stuff.

I guess VNC is a nice idea. I've heard of another product recently but forgot the name - if I find it I'll post it.

Read my post here (currently bottom of the thread) on how to use your headphone out jack to control it all: http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/to...TOPIC_ID=15702

It does require a $30 plug that will go into you volume thing to shoot out the signals. :)

So what you are saying is that the power level capable of being produced from the IR sender on the TPC is too low to control the equipment from the comfort of my lounge chair?

I have used both my PPC and HP calculator quite successfully in the past.

Maybe this is why nobody has bothered to write one.

Yeah, it's likely low grade IR (<3 feet, and usually around 1 ft), not CIR (consumir IR works at 30+ feet), although some tablets might have it, I doubt it. Like I said, if you have a PPC or someone to borrow one from you could use the total remote for $20-30 and sample the IR triggers from your various remotes into sounds and put them on your Tablet to have your TPC control stuff via the Total Remote. Only way I can think of ATM..

Another option might be a remote for the tablet, and the tablet itself controls the display and sound reproduction hardware. I've heard that Microsoft's Media Center is along these lines, but they say it's not ready for prime time. Of course "they" also said the tablet was not ready for prime time. . .

ir sounds nice, but it doesnt appear to have near enough range. is there any prog that can run over a wireless connection. like a prog that can be setup on two comps, one comp is set to be controlled (to recieve signals) and one is set to controll (where all of the commands come from). they could be using a specific port and the tablet could just be a giant 1500$ remote. id love to find somethign like this, but in the mean time ill use remote desktop or vnc and control my desktop from my couch.

(this is what i plan to do when i do get a tablet pc in august)

It shouldn't be to hard to write, but I don't have a MCE to test with.
