Okay, I need help. I just discovered Acer, and realized that the Acer TravelMate C300 TPC may be WAY BETTER than the Toshiba M200. I like Toshiba very much, and the M200 is a huge step up from the 3500 Portege, but this Acer looks good! The size and weight won't bother me, and I love the alleged battery life/larger screen/built-in optical drive/brighter screen. Toshiba has none of these. Toshiba's screen does NOT adjust to light, I believe. I believe Acer's screen is brighter. I believe the Acer is just as fast and can be loaded with as much memory. I'm not sure what advantages the Toshiba has over the Acer except a smaller screen and lighter weight. Someone please enlighten me. This Acer TravelMate C300 looks damned good. It looks like a better tablet and a better laptop. It's just heavier and bigger, two things not that important to me.

    Oh, and it's $500-$1000 cheaper.

    Again, help!

hey doc, I have been reading your posts for a while. I was trying to decide between the Fujitsu and the Toshiba about the same time you were. Early on I had looked at Acers as well. I had decided against Acer mainly for 3 reasons: 1 I had seen acers model in person and overall was unimpressed with the build quality, there was nothing "wrong" with it, but I just didn't like it. 2 Acer does not have a very good Video card. I am a student at a college and I wanted something for notes and programming on. But I also wanted something that I could have fun on and the Toshiba has the best video card of any of the tablets.3 The size thing was a big deal to me. Plus I really liked Toshiba's docking station and warranty. I looked online at performance reviews of The Acer and it never scored very well, this probably wont matter to you but it did to me.So those are the main reasons I chose the Toshiba and I am eagerly awaiting the Dec. 1st delivery. Hope this helps you out a little as you have been a great help to me.

Just curious: Why isn't this important to you? Am I to assume that you will NOT be carrying your TPC from room to room with an EMR to chart at the point of care?

Have you considered the Toshiba with an array mic (205)? Could be the best there is for dictation, if applicable.

Low resolution (XGA), and relatively large screen. Bad combination :(

I'm going to have fun reading this thread. I think I'm one of the few if not the only to own a tablet w/ a 14" display and the M200.

All I have to say is that my count has gone up to 3. That's 3 people that have seen both my Gateway M275 along side my Toshiba M200 and have chosen to purchase the Gateway.

Oh and one more thing, the display/resolution combination only makes a big difference when reading poorly scanned documents.

Or when one needs screen estate.

I went to Microcenter and saw the Acer and M200 right next to each other. The Acer looks MUCH bigger than the toshiba. I'm used to the resolution on the m200 and so, by comparison, the Acer screen looked a bit coarse (kinda like 640x480 on a 17 inch monitor).

The Acer screen is brighter compared to the m200 (mainly I think due to the overlay on the Toshiba screen).

The main reason I picked the m200 is, it's build quality. It just feels like it's "tougher" than the Acer.

Main differences of the 2 that I see are: Size, weight, video card, color, build quality and built in optic drive.

I was initially going to get the Acer just based on price and the thought that I'd need the built cdrom. When I saw the m200 on Ebay for less than the Acer, I had to go with the m200. Be warned though, Ebay is full of scammers.

No, no; it does matter to me what you think! What you're saying does help me out. I have been trying to read as much as possible here at tabletpcbuzz, and I have seen a lot of complaints over at the Acer thread. So, I'm not surprised by the low scoring performance reviews that you've seen. Thanks.

Hey, doc, don't know if you remember me. But, we e-mailed one another a couple years ago, and you were quite helpful. Glad you're weighing in. I already bought the Toshiba M200, but a friend, who is a local M.D., really likes his Acer. He did say that he never uses it in tablet mode, though. I definitely will be, and, like you, am very keen on voice dictation. So...your thoughts are most welcome.

Why heavier and bigger doesn't bother me? Because I am a gargantuan, backpack-carrying, expedition-style, mountaineer and ice-climbin' dude who likes cold weather, heavy weight and uphill slopes. I am strong like bull, I've been pumpin' and training for years now, and I'm not afraid of the girlie-man tablets, even the bigger ones.

Actually, I'm a skinny geek, and the weight scares me a little. But even more so, the size may be a bit much, especially at the end of the day.

That said, I think the 12-inch screen and light weight might be nicer at about 5:30 p.m. after the daily 30-40 patients I see and train. But, I really, really am not afraid of the weight, and I do like the built-in optical drive and brighter screen. The bulkiness of it may bother me (not really a weight issue, right?).

Okay, turnabout's fair play: why IS Toshiba a better TPC? Aside from the larger screen and heavier weight (i.e., these things really do not matter that much to me), why wouldn't I want the brighter screen for my bright office? Can Toshiba be seen in glaring sunlight? And what about voice dictation? Can't the Acer handle it? Why is that little Toshiba I just ordered really better? I want to hear it from you, who owns as many of these things as I do Swiss balls and dumbbells!

Thank you in advance for your help! BTW, what's an "array" mike? Is that the 3-way voice cancellation built-in mike that I'm getting?

Doc, I hope you have time to return the message.
