I have been using SP2 on my TC1000 since the first day it was available. I would say it is definitely worth installing. I did format the machine first, so i had no junk on the machine prior to SP2 being installed.
Hi after all my drama have just taken delivery of my brand new TC1100! The people at HP who were trying to sort out my old TC1000 and failed!!! I might add warned me not to install service pack 2 as it was full of bugs? That was a month ago and I am wondering is this still true ? Should I go ahead and download or not??

It installed and is working perfectly on my 1100.
Download and remember to have your AC Adapter plugged in or there might be bugs.

Works fine on my 1100 and I wouldn't want to be without it.
BTW, if you have are using the TC's internal modem, rather than an external broadband device, downloading SP2 could be somewhat painful.
In case you hadn't noticed, Microsoft will supply a free SP2 CD if you ask ... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx
Mine was delivered in around two weeks.
Must get round to installing it.....[:I]
I downloaded it over the net, but I noticed it was also on the front of a lot of cover disks on magazines in the UK
Hello Kathy,
I've install over 50 SP2 on many different computers. I've had 3-4 failed installs. That is an over 90% success rate. Mind, you these are approximate numbers. I'd say the percentage is higher. When there was a failure [seemed to be adware/spyware related as it relates to the old O/S], if was not SP2's fault. Doing a clean install of Windows XP SP1, and then installing SP2 always resolved the problem. In reality, my success rate has been 100%. A clean Windows installation, does require reinstalling all applications.
When there was a failure [could not start up the computer--no desktop]. That WAS NOT a problem. Perform an in-place repair, and you are returned to Windows XP SP1, with everything working as it once was. Some people panic when presented this problem. The first time I experienced it, I did what I always do when there is an O/S startup problem--in-place repair [boot from Windows XP CD, use the second repair option, and 40-50 minutes later--DESK TOP].
Running Windows XP SP2 versus Windows XP SP1 is advantageous to the user. I fully concur with alienrat. I would not be without it. Immediately after receiving my Motion M1400, I installed SP2. I have had no problems that I think require removing SP2.
I recommend it!
I'm also pondering about installing SP2 on my TC1100 when it comes back from repair. I've heard some people say that it sits more heavily on the system, that is, it has a larger foot-print and people experience some slow downs as a result of that. Or is it just a minority who may have this problem due to the way they installed SP2?
Thank you in advance.
On a 40GB or larger hard drive where nearly 75% or better of the hard drive will be free, I've never concerned myself with the amount of space Windows SP1 uses versus Windows SP2. "If we remove a couple more buckets of sand, will it clear the beach”? I don't think so!
Some people concern themselves with hard drive space management. I think is a misplaced concern on today's hard drives. There was a time… But, that’s another story.
I do not perceive my systems operates slower with SP2 installed. As long as there is sufficient virtual memory [used for paging] for the O/S, the number of files on the hard drive will not affect the computer’s performance. Most files are just sitting there waiting to be called into RAM.
Kathy, I hope this helps.
You are certainly welcome…
