Long time reader, first time poster. I am Getting ready to take a long car trip, with my new week old Toshiba Tablet PC. Question concerning how I am going to charge the tablet in the car?

I have a RadioShack multi plug car adaptor. I am smart enough to read the votage requirments and set the voltage thingie correctly. Has anybody used these before? I dont want to distroy my computer by surging the power through it.

    Any advice?
    Thanks

If it's an M200, it needs quite a lot of power...15V at 4A, which is 60W. Most small car chargers can't supply that, but check the specs on your Radio Shack device. Three suggestions:

    1. Buy an inverter, which plugs into your car power outlet, and has a regular 110V socket on the other side. Then just use your regular Toshiba adapter to charge the laptop. The advantage here is that the Toshiba adapter accommodates a wide range of input voltages and power quality, and will clean it up for your laptop. A 100W inverter runs about $25.

    2. Targus sell purpose-made car/air adaptors, some of which work on AC, too. They come with interchangeable tips for different laptops.

    3. Try a Juice adapter from www.igo.com. Depending on which one you buy, it'll work in your car, on a 'plane and from AC anywhere in the world, and will also charge your cell phone and any other portable devices you may own. I just ordered their new 7500 unit (not yet shipping) which will even run off the 28V power in a private 'plane.

    Hmmm.

    Hello first time poster.

And hello 2nd time poster Alex, long time reader too?

@ Jason: excellent advice from Alex!

I've got the Targus (more a consumer than a tech.) it recharges in about an hour; it's terrific.

    Welcome aboard both of you.

    All the best.

Yup the Kensington works really well. It's essentially the iGo except it has a retractable cord.

I use Targus Air/Auto adapter and it works great on my new M200. I have a couple spares lying around in my closet... if you want one I will be happy to sell it.

All of these are great Solutions, I will take a peek at the local best buy, and see what they have. Thanks again.

After hearing the Kensington adapter worked for the M200, I bought one off of Ebay from one of the major sellers there (something like 1000+ feedbacks).

Got it and it works great plugged in to the wall. I need to try it plugged in to the car still but hopefully that goes well.

FYI, the Tip marked number 6 works with the M200.
