Default Is there any way to use the screen and digitizer

Is there any way to use the screen and digitizer from a tablet pc exactly like a Wacom Cintiq?

I want to get a tablet PC and use it as a Wacom Cintiq.

Is there any way to use the screen from a tablet pc as a tablet for a different computer?

    Thanks.[eureka]

No, there is no way to use it exactly as you describe. You could display another screen using VNC or similar software but it wouldn't be quite the same.
If you want the same functionality as a Cintiq you would be better off getting one, as for the same price as a tabletPC you would get a bigger screen and a system designed to do what you want.

There's a program called ``Maxivista'' which pretty much does what you want. Needs network connection between the two machines.

Actually, if you have a fast enough
    network connection (200Kbits+)
vnc should work quite well. To the
original poster, here is the link:
    http://www.realvnc.com/

Briefly, here is how it could work:
    - set up wireless (or wired networking
b/w the tablet pc and the "other pc".
    - run the "vnc server" on the tablet
    - run the "vnc client" on the other pc,
and connect to the vnc server.

If anyone tries this, and runs into problems, please
post here. I'll try to help out on the vnc side
of things, as I have been using it for quite a while,
but don't have a tablet pc yet to try it out.

For those suggesting VNC or Maxivista, you have to realize that pressure sensitivity must transfer over from the tablet pc to the host pc if you want anything that functions close to a cintiq (and for that you also need a TPC that supports those wacom drivers), so that leaves the question if there is a way to configure either of the two applications to support such a thing. Any ideas?

What you could do is plug the tablet to another monitor. You'd use the tablet as your wacom tablet + computer, but still have a nice, huge, calibrated monitor. It's not exactly like a Cintiq (Cintiq -> computer+monitor VS tablet+computer -> Monitor), but I believe the M200 (up to 2 GB RAM, P-M @ up to 2.0 GHz, ~ a P4 @ 2.8-3.0, could be less since PS filters, etc can really use the P4's long pipeline and good FP) should handle most Photoshop, etc. needs ok, and its GeForce FX 5200 Go can drive an external monitor at up to 2048 x 1536 x 24 bpp (I don't know the maximum resolution at 32 bpp). And no, I don't think VNC-likes can use pressure sensitivity, but, for what it's worth, i think X11 (the standard *nix graphical layer) can.

^ Still, the M200 is quite expensive, it would be IMO much much more economical to use a cheaper tablet which supports wacom drivers and vnc into a much more powerful computer to do graphics work. The question is whether VNC and the like are speedy enough (I wonder if a 5-10ft wired connection would do?), but the real problem right now is the pressure sensitivity since you say such programs probably dont support such a thing. Maybe it's time I hit up the feature request sections?
