Default I am considering buying a Motion 1400 but was wo

I am considering buying a Motion 1400 but was wondering whether I should buy the memory/RAM from Motion or buy the minumum memory/RAM from Motion and then upgrade the RAM via a 3rd party.

If I should buy from a 3rd party, who do you recomend buying from?

Should I buy additional video RAM from Motion or 3rd party?

If 3rd party, which site/seller do you recommend and in both cases what type and how much video RAM do you recommend adding?

    Thank You

I'd buy the min from Motion then upgrade yourself. I bought my memory from Newegg.

Some have stated that John at Allegiance Technologies (alltp.com) will upgrade the RAM on a purchased unit and upgrade to SP2 before shipping to you. I bought from John and have loved the service. Highly recommended!

You cannot add more video ram. If you're going to upgrade your ram yourself I'd go with Crucial or Kingston.

We use Crucial and Kingston. I know they are not the least expensive (except compared to Motion) but their quality is unquestioned. We use Crucial about 95% of the time and have never had a bad stick.

    CT12864x335 - 1Gb
    CT6464x335 - 512Mb
    CT3254x335 - 256Mb

Also, we have a long running offer in the For Sale section to buy unneeded Motion OEM 256Mb chips for $35.

I just added 512MB of Crucial RAM and, whoa, what a difference!! Boot up was quicker and I can have so many more apps running at the same time. $100 is well worth the gain in performance. I'll probably replace the stock 256 in q few weeks.

same here, added a 512 ram module
hynix (IBM uses these also) hymd564m646a6-J
    runs ok
my fact installed is infineon. so there are more and more brands identified that are factory installed or usable in a motion 1400

Is there a problem with mixing the factory installed 512MB infineon ram with 512MB crucial ram? Or, should I keep both sticks the same?

We have mixed the original factory RAM with both Crucial and Kingston without any problems.

I have the 512 MB RAM that came installed in the M1400, plus an additional gigabyte of RAM from Crucial Technology. I have been running this configuration since mid September with no problems.

    John,

Thanks for the quick reply. Is there a difference between the Crucial CT6464X335 and the Crutial CT6464X335.16T?

I've tried to find the .16T version on the Crucial websight, but I don't see it. Is this just an OEM rename or is there a real difference.
