I have earlier made an inquire about noise from tablet pc in general and from that I have learned that the M1400 and the cf-18 do not have any fan, but I did not get any reply about other tablets. So I now wonder if somebody could help me and tell me if there is any noise from the M200 other than that from the hard disk?

The only time the fan runs is when I'm running on AC and doing something very processor-intensive. Even then, it's not too obtrusive. The fan pretty much never runs on battery. I've used my M200 in numerous small-meeting settings (2-3 people in attendance, small office), and noise has never been an issue.

The M200 has two fans as far as Im aware, one for CPU and one for GPU... The CPU one is only on when running really graphic intensive programs like 3D games etc. and the CPU fan is on depending on cpu power settings... If you set it to a fixed low speed, it will never start ...

I never hear it except when it is starting up.

I hardly ever hear the fan. But when I did run some graphically intense games I got an error message indicating that the system was overheating and required service. I got it back in a few days and found that they replaced cooling components. I think the GPU fan.

I'm a law student and I am amazed at how loud other students' laptops are compared to mine. I don't think the fan ever comes on while on DC, but when plugged into AC, it does run fairly often. I have my CPU cranked up all the way, though. Even when the fan is running, it is barely noticable. A student who sits behind me has a Dell that sounds like a jet engine firing up. It is really annoying. I think you'll be pleased with the noise level of the M200.

    J. Schmidt,

What power setting are you using during lectures? I've had my M200 for less than a week, and I'm scared of taking it to class because it seems my fan BLOWS with almost every application I use (unplugged). None of my other tablets have ever began blowing air in class; they are usually on high settings since I normally have three different programs running simultaneously (Acrobat, One Note, MathJournal).

Crispy's awareness of two fans seems correct. The GPU fan is very quiet, yet the CPU fan would grab my attention if some other student had such a fan. Maybe I'm just used to never noticing fan noise. "So far" this is my only gripe pertaining to the M200 .

I'm using auto for the CPU with the range set from 3-10. Another factor with the fan is what type of CPU you have. If you have a Banias processor, I believe these tend to run hotter than the newer Dothan processors...

The fan noise isn't nearly as loud as any of the fans on the digital projectors at my school, so I figure I can't possibly be bothering anyone around me, especially if I sit near a projector. Plus no one's complained and I've asked people occasionally.

It's is pretty quiet. I've only heard the fan running when plugged to AC.
When on batteries I've never heard then fan even at hot room temperatures of up to 28 Celsius.
    Very quiet.
