Default Hello all, I've been asked to get a Rugged Ta

    Hello all,

I've been asked to get a Rugged Tablet TR3000 set up for a customer. The fact that I've been unable to locate any posts on this unit (looked through 30+ pages) or reviews online makes me wonder how much of a dog or miniscule niche entry this particular model is...

Has anyone here played with one of these? I've been able to load most everything successfully but am having 802.11b issues - it fails to recognize any APs at all despite the fact the radio is on in the BIOS, Rotate utility, WLAN utility, and Device Manager. It's an Airvast PRISM3 USB Module card and I pulled down the latest drivers from the Airvast site v3.1.3 on advice from HP.

Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks for your help!

    cheers /td

I think a person/organization really needs to look at the "need" for a rugged device.

For example we have been using TC1000's for just over a year now on our ambulances, the Paramedics use them to chart the patients condition, history, treatment, etc and then print or transfer the information when they arrive at the hospital.

We have 10 devices, an have only had 2 failures, both hard drive not related to any fall, drop or other physical abuse. These devices have been we received by the Paramedics.

One of the key components to our success I believe is that we educated the people on care and handling of the device.

So with that said, review the actual need and perhaps you may not need a rugged device just guidelines on care and control. But of course if you are doing research deep in the jungle and the information is mission critical you may want to disregard my comments..

    Carl,

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure what the TR3000 is going to be used for by the end user but I have to get it working properly regardless.

With regard to my wireless question, I put a PCMCIA wireless card in the device and it picks up the APs just fine. Any thoughts on why the onboard card wouldn't see them (WEP/WPA-protected or not) - perhaps a setting on the device I am missing? Thanks.

    tdigitee,

    Questions:

Was that Airvast PRISM3 USB Module card supplied with the TR3000 by HP?

    Have you tried HP support?

Is there a green light on the bezel of the TR3000 that is supposed to light up when wireless is on? Does it light up?

Have you tried physically re-seating the card?

If you get in there and have a look at the card, there should be two antenna leads running to it - are they both connected?

Get into the network settings and see if you have a service called Odyssey Client Services
(in the same panel as you enable TCP/IP)

If it is there - try unchecking it, if is checked - actually, try it both ways.

I came close to one at the HP Mobility Roadshow I attended recently. They are bulky and not very pretty. Sorry I can't offer any other information.

    WN,

Thanks for your help - I did finally get it to see and connect to APs after a just-released firmware update from HP and a driver rollback. Now I just don't have any options for WPA authentication in Windows, despite running the patch. Any ideas on that one? Thanks!

    cheers /td

    Hi all
I purchased this model @ CDW as a demo unit and love it!
It comes with a 2 year warranty.
The screen is a bit small but provides a durable super pda type unit running XP Pro. This tablet is great for contractors for notetaking and wireless communication. (The wireless reception is a bit weak)
My unit came with bluetooth and works with the Mac bluetooth keyboard.
The bluetooth mouse would not pair.
Definately consider purchasing the docking station. When you are back at the office or home, have an LCD or other monitor to do your bulk work and then take the pc with you to your site. With this there is no need for a second computer.
Get a portable cd or dvd drive to use for uploading or backup.
The price is a bit steep, but considering the included warranty and durability it can be worth it if you are in an outside environment.
