Thread: From the 14" choices that I have : Gateway M2

    Default From the 14" choices that I have : Gateway M2

    From the 14" choices that I have :

    Gateway M275XL : XGA
    or
    Acer 303 : XGA

    Which one would you people recommend? The things that matter to me most are: touch screen precision, image quality, speed, design, hardware quality, etc.

    I guess nobody has a 14" screen with a higher resolution, so high resolution is less important, I suppose.

    Thanks,
    Anil

    I think that they are equally good...or bad...depending on who you talk to and who has had trouble with tech support..which seems to be issues at times... So take your choice..which ever you get...be prepared to with you had the other.

    I would make one comment...not so much tounge in cheek.. Gateway had has some serious financial problems and closed all their stores. I am not sure how they will fare in the future or what they will offer in terms of long term support.

    Acer has been around a long time and they were amoung the first...note I said amoung, not THE first... to have a tablet. Also they have introduced more models than anyone else I think..going from the 100,102,104,110,111 300 and 303..

    Not sure if that means they are more progressive or that they made more mistakes and they corrected them...who knows..

    I choose the Acer 303 last month because it came standard with 1 GB RAM and a DVD RW for the same price (2150) as the Gateway.

    in addition, acer offers certain features that gateway does not: FIR, Smart Card, Bluetooth, etc

    Another vote for the Acer C300 series here, it's got EVERYTHING in it, and the features to price ratio can't be matched by ANY other tablet, IMO. :D

    Here's what I consider EVERYTHING :

    <SCREENS>
    1. Bright screen (like the XBRITE onSony) - Fuijitsu also has it and it is called CrystalView
    2. Indoor/outdoor feature like some Fuijitsu Laptops.
    3. Resolution : like Toshiba.
    4. 14" : Like Gateway and Acer.

    <HARDWARE>
    1. Reliability
    2. Durability

    <GRAPHICS>
    Nice graphics card to play latest games.

    <WEIGHT>
    Lightest weight

    <SUPPORT>
    Nice support options.

    That would be close to everything for me.

    Do you have any links that I could do some further research on the Gateway situation? I was originally thinking that I'd go for the Acer simply because it had more features for the same price, but Gateway's ADP (especially the current special of $200 for 4 years on the M275E) swung me over - but if they're not going to be around to call that warranty in then it swings back to the Acer for me.

    My comments on Gateway stem from following the business news. I will post a couple of links but you have to read between the lines. I had forgot to mention that the saving grace may be that Gateway purchased eMachines. That company was on death bed when the new CEO came in revamp...and I must say has done outstanding job. My dau has eMachine and loves it!.. Anyway the eMachines CEO will now run Gateway.

    just a couple items...neither address the real issue...But who knows, the PC market is so unpredictable.

    I am not saying it is better or worse than Acer...just some thoughts I tossed in. I have not read much in the Gateway threads in this forum, but I seem to recall some discussions there sometime back..

    Sorry I dont have more off the top of my head..if I run across more in the business section I will post

    Thanks, that's a useful start. It definitely does leave things up in the air. The fact that my Uni Computer store is an Acer authorised reseller is also affecting my decision. Tough...
