i cannot call toshiba because the laptop was second-hand when I bought it one mounth ago.
Why not call Toshiba support and ask them about it? If it is a new machine, it should be working.

does anybody know something about jumper settings on Toshiba mainboards?
I dont know if this is a solution, but I am going to get into this laptop and try to find out some jumpers...
I haven't read Toshiba's warranty but in many cases the warranty goes with the hardware not the user. You could call them and give them the serial number a see if they will help.

hint: do you know the original owners name?
A noddy question, but; how can I see what speed my cpu is working at? i can see that it iws 1600mhz on the Control Panel/System/General tab. I can see where the speed setting is available in the toshiba power setup, but cannot see the actual speed.

Was there any resolution on this? I just realized my computer is running at 598 mhz as well.
If you go into the Toshiba Power utility and there are only three CPU "levels" then you may be able to fix the problem by re-flashing the microcode in the BIOS for the CPU.
You didn't post which processor you have, but if you have a Banias processor, the fix is easy.
Just download the file from Toshiba's web site at:
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/cont...s/pom200t1.exe
Make the boot floppy and then use it to boot your M200. Select #2 from the first menu and then #1 from the second menu. It should give you a message something like:
[FLASH] Write to CPU Information Table Data Block
Information Written Successfully
Image #X
This same process may work with some lower-speed Dothans although I can't remember which ones. If you have a 2.0 Dothan, you will need to follow my instructions at:
http://tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic....2&whichpage=12
Look for the post about 1/2 way down the page, which talks about the CPU Info Table.
If none of these suggestions work and you get an error message instead of the message I posted above, then there is likely a problem with the hardware and I would suggest calling Toshiba for support.
Hope this helps!
