Default Hey, I've taken some effort to take the M200 apa

Hey, I've taken some effort to take the M200 apart earlier today[8D] and was shocked and realli surprised to see that the geforce 5200go had no heatsink on it what so ever.. but instead is under a white plastic thing..? Anybody please confirm this? And whats the white plastic for.. uhh shielding?

    Thanks..[thumbsup]

Hmm. Well contrary to popular belief, the Toshiba M200's are not for gaming. As with any Laptop, they heat up too much, depending on your power settings and what you are doing. This isn't from first hand experience but a lot of reading.

I'd agree that sounds paltry but there may not be room for much else?? How much room is in there?

    I'm curious.

Well, its the 'most' gaming out there out of all in the tablet bunch.. hehe (esp. if u pump up the gpu core clock speed and ddr memory speed) ;) .. well theres a but if room for cooling improvement if you really do take out that fan thats connected to the bottom part which detaches.

It's just really weird, there's no airflow what so ever behind that white plastic, and still I cant see that point of that white plasic.. any ideas wat its for.. anybody..?:(

    Thx

    Here's a moderately related question:

Will the M200 tend to run cooler when it's driving the built-in display, or when it's instead driving an external display (but not also the built-in display)? I suppose I could figure this out by systematically tracking how often the fan kicks on, but I'm never paying attention to this.

I'm not sure how much change the M200's have been changed, but I've got an original M200 with the old gen CPU's (Banias), and I've got a fan right underneath/on top of the plastic. So the GPU doesn't have a heat sink, but it is fan assisted.

Heya, according to what I see. there's a white plastic flap between the fan and the GPU itself, so my prediction is that the fan actually brings down the ambient temperature inside the laptop instead of directly cooling the GPU (thtas why I keep asking about the purpose of that white plastic..[:I])

    Thx..[[thumbsup]

a few corrections need to be made. the chip under the plastic next to the memory slots is actually the i855pm northbridge. The gforce chip is tward the middle of the machine under a small silver heatsink and the fan blows across it for cooling.
