After creating the above post I did a little search and found reference to the "press firmly" cure for the dreaded decay.
Well I'll be, it works!! Praise be the Buzz forum!!
While not nearly as fatal as sudden death syndrome, digitizer decay presents a whole new batch of frustrations.
For no apparent reason, I have developed a blank strip across my screen. It's about 1 1/2 inches wide, from one side of my tablet to the other. I can read what's on the screen, but my pen functionality goes blank...it's a no man's land...or more a no pens land across the screen. Very frustrating!
So, now I am off warranty and wondering what my repair costs will be. Has anyone else had a digitizer problem repaired, and at what cost??

Yes the press firmly cure let me deal with a dead strip for nearly a year. Whenever it came up I was able to get rid of it quickly. I recently developed sudden death and sent my tablet in and both are to be repaired.
...you know, someone else on here is/was wondering about the cost of this "off warranty" repair...
Motion had told me the range of $100 - $800 ...admittedly a pretty big range...but then "press firmly" is sweetly free (in a McGiver sort of way)
