You can disable automatic screen shut off in the same place (Monitor power off, from 1 min to 4 hours or never). Note that i don't have this problem at all, so, yes, it might be a manufacturing defect.
When the screen is closed, the m205 is to hibernate automatically. A small black vertical button located near the upper right corner of the keyboard is used for this purpose. When depressed, the tablet assumes the screen is closed, and by default, and goes into hibernation if not already turned off.
The problem I've encountered is that when the screen is folded into tablet (slate) mode, it folds close enough to the button that sometimes the tablet turns itself off. This, of course, was pretty annoying. I thought I'd worked around the problem, when I found a setting in the Setup Action tab in the Toshiba Power Saver Utility that allowed me to disable this auto-hibernate feature when the screen is closed. Well, while it now doesn't go into hibernation, the screen still turns itself off. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? Anyone know how I could also disable the automatic screen shut off feature? It seems to me that this problem is a manufacturing defect, and that I should probably go get a replacement tablet.

Turns out that this IS a defect, so I am returning it to Circuit City in return for a new one.
How did you determine it was a defect (other than it not happening to others)?
Just curious, I like to add things to my brain to keep in mind.
I have the exact same problem. I phoned Toshiba and they have no clue about what could be the problem.
If I had to take a wild guess, it may have something to do with the computer not recognizing the screen has turned 180 before you fold it.
