Mr. D. I'm stilled puzzled by this one as well. The rotation button works fine here. If I have some time I'll try to call Toshiba tech support and ask them about the "locking/unlocking" effect of the button.
Has anyone figured out how to make the M200 Screen Rotation Button work?
I have the Rotation Utility enabled and I have no idea how to lock or unlock the screen using the Escape button.

I still haven't figured out the Esc lock and unlock thing. However, if the rotation utility is turned OFF and the screen rotated then my button will rotate the screen ONE time and that's it. Not like the 3500 screen rotation button.
Cecilia's rotation button does nothing. I'd like to be able to flip the Portrait mode because it feels nicer to hold the TPC with the hinge resting on the nape of my left elbow rather than the edge of my left hand.
Any pointers as to why it never does anything when I press it, ever?
For the screenrotation button, try holding the tablet "perpendicular" to the ground in the mode (landscape or portrait, primary or secondary) ... you have to hold it basically straight up and down is what I have found. Then press and hold the rotation button for a couple seconds and see if that works. I encountered the same "problem" but this worked for me.
check out this short video of a guy performing the operation.

as for the security button... mine did not work either. Then I went to the help screen to try and figure it out... I set the toshiba "symbol" password for logging in in tablet portrait mode, and low and behold it started working. I don't have any specific advice, but just keep trying... it will work :-D
While I don't think anyone has figured out the mysterious ESC lock function the button does work very well for me when I need to change the orientation in tablet mode. I hold the screen in the orientation I wish to use, hold the button in and move the tablet towards me. Voila, the screen rotates. In tablet mode, I mostly have the screen orientation set to secondary portrait mode as it just feels more natural to me. However, when I'm on the road and using the Sprint PCS mobile card, I rotate the screen to primary portrait so that the card is at the top of the unit.
on second look, you guys seem to have quite a bit of tablet pc buzz forum experience, so you probably don't need those "obvious" tips I gave above; however, I opened my m200 yesterday and was quite miffed because neither of those buttons seemed to be doing anything no matter how many times I pressed them etc... till i did the above.
Sorry if I insulted your intelligence :-D

The esc function (I believe) is used to escape out of the Toshiba Shortcut menu accessed by holding in the xfunctional button.
The security button acts as a Ctl+Alt+Del at log in if you are logging into a windows server domain or otherwise require the three finger salute before entering your user password.
