My boss is having the same issue with his new Acer laptop (not Tablet), and he is using a Netgear Gigabit switch.
Are the EasyPorts even gigabit compatible? I just ripped Acer Support a new one over the phone regarding this. Man they do suck hard.
I have my c303 plugged in the EasyPort replicator. When I plug my cat5 cable from the easyport to my Linksys Gigabit 10/100/1000 switch, i get no link. When I plug the easyport to a netgear 10/100 switch, it works fine.
Is this port replicator incompatible with Gigabit switches?

Actually it appears the gigabit switches seem to be something of an anomaly. Using my Acer C300 straight up on a D-link 8 port Gig switch I've had no problems, (I don’t have a port replicator, so I don't know if that would work or not) but I've had a Thinkpad T-series gigabit on-board laptop only detect at 10meg and a desktop with on-board gigabit only connect at 10meg to this series switch. All the while my other two older desktops that use a PCI Gigabit Network card have no qualms with connecting at a gigabit speed.
I'm still analyzing things down to find out what the issue is but if it helps you aren't alone in your problems with what should be an easy upgrade.
If you do find out anything keep this thread up to date and I'll try to do likewise.
Well thats the whole idea. It works fine if I plug gigabit directly to the laptop. But to the port replicator... it doesn't get a link PERIOD. If the port replicator isn't gigabit compatible, it should at least downgrade to 100... but it doesn't do this.
Acer tech support said "We do not guarantee it to work with 3rd party vendors". So I was like... "OK so where is Acer's gigabit switch and I would gladly buy one". He had no answer to that.
Who sucks? The techs that do there best to help you when your yelling and screaming like little kids or the customers that are having a temper tandrum????? please enlighten me.quote:Originally posted by DjPiLL

I think I deserve to know if the port replicator will work on a Gigabit switch. The first idiot I spoke to told me to call Linksys and get the latest firmware for the switch. Big waste of time since the switch has no firmware. Its not a router with software on it.
Then all they wanted to do was pass the buck. They didn't help me when I was being nice to them. Why should I continue to be nice when all they tell me is "We don't test against 3rd party". What good is advertising your tablet has gigabit if you don't actually TEST the damm thing! Duh!
how many switchs are there in the world? Thousands maybe? Thats just switchs isn't it, what about we add routers in there, and just regular old hub. Man now we are getting into the millions. Now lets think about usb ports, how many diffrent devices would Acer have to test to make sure that off the wall device you have is going to work. Sheeesh. What places like Acer does is make a device themselves that meet the specs for the device. After all it would take a warehouse just to house these device to test with.
Now if a tech tells you something like WE DONT TEST 3RD PARTY HARDWARE, then that person is most likely PAID to tell you that. If it's part of my job then I'm going to do it. You need to understand that when you call into a call center these PEOPLE ( because they are humans ) are paid to tell you things and don't know everything there is to know. Acer is based in another country, the systems are designed by someone else in another country that doesn't speak a bit of english. You need to be a little more understanding when you talk to a tech support person.
yes I agree you should find out if it works or not and you will get that answer
Yeah I know its impossible for them to test every piece of hardware. I simply asked him... ok give me ONE gigabit switch that you know works and I will go out and get it. He couldn't even tell me one.
They can say "We don't test for 3rd party hardware"... bit a lot of companies also have their "approved list" of items they KNOW work and HAVE been tested. Xbox Live is a perfect example. They don't guarantee their service to work on 3rd party routers, but they give you THREE models of routers that are "xbox live compliant" that they know work.
How can you advertise something as being gigabit if you haven't even taken the time to test it. At least test it once!
And believe me... I work in the "tech support field". I am more a manager now... but I know when I am being spoonfed bull**** while its happening.
yeah well it's bull that someone was making that tech tell you.
