    Hey All...

I want to buy a TPC and have been researching them for what seems like forever now and have really come to like the Motion models. I would love to know what everyone thinks about when the NEW crop of Motion TPCs will be showing up.

Specifically, if the M1400 was just released in April 2004 then when do you think we will see the M1500 for example or perhaps an M1400 with the new Dothan upgrades inside??? I am not really in-a-hurry to buy, I can wait until AUG to buy my TPC so I am wondering if there will be NEW machines by that time.

Any insight (speculation) would be welcome...Thanks in advance...

By August, the only upgrade I think we will see is the ViewAnywhere screen. Motion can't do Dothans until the ULV dothans come out, which I don't know when that will happen. When ULV Dothans do come out I am pretty sure there will be a shift, but I do not have a time frame. The Dothan shift isn't as big of a deal for the ULV processors as the LV processors. I think the fastest ULV dothan is 1.2ghz, not exactly a big jump.

    Hi Joseph (jmphillips)

Welcome to the forum here at "the Buzz"

Here is link with lots of info about the M1400. Because that model is relatively new, most of the information comes from threads in this forum in the last month or so.
    Motion M1400 Frequently Asked Questions

The M1400 like its predecessors is a "fanless" design based on the Intel ULV (ultra low voltage) processors. At the moment, the fastest of these is 1.1 ghz. (I could be wrong on this one - haven't visited the Intel site today).

The recently announced Pentium M with the Dothan core are not ULVs.

There has been some chatter here that we may see some ULVs clocked at the same speed with 2 megabytes of Level 2 cache (the current ones are typically 1 megabyte). I think they may be known as ULV Banias 738. Here's the chatter

If you are waiting until August to buy, is it because you are a student? If so, you may want to give yourself a little more lead time to get to know your machine before classes start.
