Are there any college kids out there currently using an m200? I'm off to college next year, and as of now I'm having a little trouble deciding between the m200 and the Motion m1400, although I'm leaning toward the m200. I looked at the General forum comparison between the two and what it really came down to was necessity for mobility. How good have you college students out there found the m200 to be for mobility? In retrospect, do you think you might have liked the added mobility of the slate tablet? I will also have a desktop at school and in all likelihood will be doing most of my typing on that.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Pat J

I am a part time college student. I took a 10 year hiatus after my sophomore year, and I am back now finishing up. I purchased the M200 in November of last year, and I love it. I use it for nearly everything. It has replaced my home desktop computer. I am a software developer, and while the M200 is quite powerful, I still use my desktop at work, but I always have the M200 open next to my desktop.

I suggest GoBinder from Agilix as a note taking program http://www.gobinder.com. It handles ink much better than OneNote (I have not used the OneNote SP1 Preview, and I have heard that it improves ink handling, but it still uses the ink blocks).

Several people here have recommended TabletPlanner from Franklin Covey, but I do not use it. I use Outlook. Perhaps if the next version of GoBinder improves integration with tabletplanner I will switch over.

I've just graduated from college and I've been using a tablet pc for my last year in college. Fall semester, I had an Acer tmc104 just to test out if I liked the tablet pc cabilities. I loved the small size, but it was a bit too small in terms of writing area for me. Spring semester I upgraded to an m200 and although it is a bit heavier, the screen size and resolution are very nice.

As far as the convertible vs slate, it comes down to your habits - whether you will be using the keyboard or are willing to give up that function (although the motion has a detachable keyboard?). I'm more of a traditional user myself, and I use the keyboard a lot because I can type faster than the ink can convert to text, plus there are usually errors in conversion which slows the process down.

I use the inking capability for all of my notes for all of my classes. Most of my professors have notes available online in PDF or powerpoint format, and i can just download them and write on them directly - which helps tremendously in saving paper, time, and printing ink. I keep all of my notes in ink format b/c I like reading my own handwriting better.

if you are still indecisive, you can always get the hp tc1100 and get the best of both worlds :)
