I just read the article on the homepage about the new Dothan M200.

And I have just ordered an M200 that is arriving tomorrow, which is the regular 1.5Mzh model.

Now what do I do? Should I return this one? Does anyone know how long it will take for the new Dothan-based models to be released?

Are the Dothan processors going to be much better? I assume with wireless-g and less heat?

Man, I'm pissed off. :-( Argh.

Hard to say Rahul, but such is the way of technology. Still, I wouldn't be upset unless:
    1. The new computers are coming out right away (i.e. order tomorrow).
    2. The price is the same as you just paid.

In either case, you always have the right to return your purchase and wait for the newer models - but you could also spend the rest of your life doing that too!

    Rahul,

Laptops seem to always have a shorter lifespan than desktops, I'm in a similar situation. I ordered the M200 with the 1.7 and just tried to call Toshiba, and they where clueless to the newer M200 model. Even though I feel like Toshiba makes a superior product to Dell & Gateway, I think there sales/website is way behind (Dell atleast). I read the return policy and we have 30 days to RMA the M200's. Mine hasn't shipped yet, so in theory I could cancel and saving the shipping charges to and from Toshiba, but I'm not going to cancel yet for two reasons.

1.) Price of the new Dothan (I'm pretty sure I'm going to rule out the 2.0, but the 1.7/1.8 is a possiblity)
2.) Availibilty, if they tell me I can't have the M200 with the Dothan for 3 months, I'm gonna stick with my 1.7. Because 3 mos from now there will be faster Dothans and possibly an M200 replacement.

But the current 130NM are now end of life, and the 90NM are just arriving, so I'll feel better going with the 90NM over the 130NM (wishfully thinking that I'll get a longer shelf life)

As of 5:00 PM EST the Dothans aren't available yet @ Toshiba.

I believe you've got 30 days to make a decision. Within that time the sales channel should have worked things out. I've read at least on post where the sales staff at Toshiba didn't yet know what was going on.

If you're really anxious about this call customer service, not sales and keep asking to be bumped up the ladder to a supervisor. Explain your situation until you get someone who will listen.

The price performance ratio will hold firm - so for the $$ that you're spending right now, you're not going to do alot better with a dothan.

This is why it's good to do a little bit a research before you buy something significant like a tablet / laptop.

The best clue we have, I think, is that the price of the M205-810 dropped about $200 in the last week or so (plus there's a $100 rebate, continued from a few weeks ago). So, I think that's a hint that something's coming. Since my M200 is working just fine and dandy, I'm not going to worry about it. I suppose any notion of buyer's remorse got burned out of me about the 10th time I purchased some computer product a week before its superior replacement was released for the same price...

Thanks guys - uou're making me feel better. I can sense the amount of accumulated buyer remorse here. Feels like a much needed support group right now.. :-)

My sorrow emerged from the fact that I bought my M200 at NewEgg which has a zero return policy. So I suppose the special price should balm my wounded ego/pocket.

The new Dothan will probably be too expensive anyway and I am not doing space age stuff that requires a harcore, cutting edge processor. I'll be fine... besides I want my tablet NOW and not 3 months down the road.

And, I found a couple of posts on the Dothan on the Buzz which indicated a May 10 release. It's my fault for not having researched more carefully. [|)]

It is always the same when a new "thing" comes out, the worry that we should have waited.

I am the guy that bought a DX266 about 2 weeks before these new Pentium things were announced !

Unless it is a major step change, then not sure we should be that worried. Would be nice to get the 11G WiFi as standard, but I have found that unless I am transferring files (and then I use Ehternet) the throughput on Wireless internet is about the same as my wired connection.

And I can't honestly say that my 3200+ AMD chip in my desktop really gives any better performance in day to day use than the 1.7 Pentiun in the M200. OK, so it does batch DVD ripping and DVI scence analysing a bit quicker, but that is really all the desktop is these days, a workhorse.

Other than improvements to Wifi and Bluetooth, there is not much I could complain about on the M200 as it is. It suits my needs just fine. Don't need the speed, or improved viewing angles. A spare pen would be nice though :D

The new M200 will have WiFi with the 802.11 G Standard.
At least here in Europe they are currently undergoing that change of generation. Expected for next week ... allthough I do not give a dime to any expected times announced by Toshiba any more. ;(

Still no pricing info @ toshiba.com. Has anyone seen any pricing estimates for the Dothan systems? Will Toshiba continue to sell the Centrino systems and will this mean a big price break on the old Centrinos?
