Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a Toshiba Portege 3505 and decided to wipe the OS, and re-install over with the XP Tablet PC Edition. After installation, I noticed a couple of performance issues, namely whenever the harddrive was working hard, the entire system would come to a crawl (and the mouse would skip around)... My friend also has the same model and after running a common benchmark, we were able to ascertain the problem. Based on SiSoftware Sandra, my harddrive is only able to muster a transfer data rate of 9MB/s, while my friend's machine can do 18MB/s. My memory bandwidth is also around 350MB/s while his is 600MB/s.

Has anyone had any problems with reformatting their portege 3500/3505 and getting this issue? I also tried installing the Integrated 2.07 Ali drivers. The utility says I'm running at ATA/66, which is the same as my friend and windows tells me I'm getting UDMA Mode 4. I checked the physical harddrive and it's a Hitachi 40GB drive that's up to 5400 RPMS. Is there any bios option I can play with?

Thanks!
