Held off buying into Tablet PC technology for nearly a year, waiting for IBM to do *something*.

Finally, despite rumours of the LG/IBM product, I couldn't wait any longer.

Have 2 Tablet PCs right now, and both are great.

The M200 is a brilliant convertible (love the resolution).

    Seriously, my only two gripes:
I wish it had a TrackPoint!
    I wish it was black!!!

That's a disappointment - I waited 5 months, but I couldn't wait any longer, so I went for the T3000. If I had known this, I would have gotten my tablet much earlier.

The LG's design is so nice - its a shame that it won't be released in the US.

Shame. No doubt this means it won't be in Europe either. LG products are always impressive too.

I am a very happy Thinkpad user, I would've been looking hard at any IBM offering. I nearly went for that proto-tablet thing of theirs - what was it called again, the Transnote?

    Sergei,

I have two TransNotes. In their time, they were brilliant. I still use them (albeit less these days).

It is my understanding that the HP machines are manufactured by LG (I may be wrong about this).

I've had two TC1000's and a TC1100. One of the selling points for me was that the keyboard layout was almost identical to many ThinkPads (including a TrackPoint). It doesn't have the IBM scrollbar (middle button), but I still prefer the (smaller) keyboard on the HPs because it is so well designed and quiet.

I know that you are looking for a rugged model with an outside-viewable screen. But for that last requirement I would long ago suggested a TC1100 with one of their rugged cases. No heavier in total than the Panasonic, and in the case it is has the same drop test ratings.

The HP TC1100 screen is quite usable in indirect sunlight, (bright day, in a car) but I wouldn't want to be using it in bright direct sunlight for very long.

I've been meaning to ask... how did you do your signature with that nice blue shadow effect?

    Folks,

Maybe Hesquared's info isn't perfectly reliable. (No criticism of Hesquared intended -- we all get and give bad info some of the time.) I say this because, as clarified in another thread (see http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/to...TOPIC_ID=11174), LG has initiated the process for getting FCC approval of the Xnote LT20. (You don't need to take anyone's word for this, you can go to the FCC site and see the documents for yourself -- "robphy" has done some wonderful investigative work and provided us the FCC links at that other thread.) Unless I'm fantastically confused (wouldn't be the first time), one only gets FCC approval for products that are to be released in the US! So, hold your breath . . . the LT20 will soon be available here.

well.. not all products approved by the FCC mean that they are going to be sold in the US it just means that they CAN be sold in the US but then again maybe im just being weird cuz usually i only check up different cell phones that get approved by the FCC cuz there are a lot of cell phones that get approved that are never sold in the US... lol... maybe i should bother my friend again... lol...

A short piece in the current issue (May) of Laptop Magazine (I didn't catch the page number) seems to corroborate Hesquared's source -- saying that LG has no plans to market their tablet in the US.

    WNewquay,

I cheated! It was created on Photoshop, using the Drop Shadow layer effect and a hint of blurring.

Outdoor viewability I can live without, though it would be nice, but I have heard that the HP1100 isn't the most respnsive of tablets, also that its screen is smooth and glasslike. As the reason I want a tablet is to draw on it, this are two reasons that got it off my shortlist. In particular, the cursor has to keep up with the pen during rapid sketching.

These o0f course are things you can only really judge by geting A TPC in your hands before you actually pay for it. Fat chance...
