Up until a few months ago I was a very big fan of Outlook Express. It was very fast and easy, and did not include all the bulky features of Outlook. I also didn't need all those features, since I am not the kind of guy that will set meetings and stuff like that. However when Outlook 2003 was released I couldn't resist and installed it. It's nice and everything, and supports some cool little plugins, but it is sloooooooooooooooow. I don't expect my tablet PC to be that much better than my laptop, I would be very happy if it was just marginally faster. So I am still worried Outlook won't perform very well on the tablet.

Is there an Outlook Express version that is designed for the tablets, or maybe a "lite" version of Outlook 2003, or even a whole different email client that is geared towards the tablets?

    Thanks,
    Chen

There is no "lite" version of Outlook 2003, except Outlook Express. Outlook 2003 is actually the best email client geared toward's tablets - support inking of emails. Inking is not supported in Outlook Express, btw.

What kind of machine are you running it on? I have a M200, 1.5 ghz 768mb RAM tablet and it runs fine. I don't consider it slow at all.

I've got a Pentium 4-M 1.6GHz with 512MB RAM. Maybe it's because my mail file is over 700MB in size?

Mine is 442mb and is just as snappy as Outlook Express.

*shrugs* I just hope it will be better on my tablet or I will be very disappointed. I will try deleting some old emails, see if that helps.

That's what I would do. I'm seriously wondering if memory and harddrive space is not your issue. With outlook open and your other normal applications, right click on your task bar and choose Task Manager. What does your memory utilization look like?

I thought that you also indicated on another thread, http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/to...TOPIC_ID=12190, that you only had 500mb of disk space left, and several of us indicated that would be the culprit of your slow computer. If Outlook 2003 is also installed on that same machine, then the slowness is still attributed to your harddrive.

That was the case, but I cleaned the HD up and now have 10GB free of 27GB available. I also defragged the HD (three times). Here are the screenshots:

    Thanks much!

So, is it still slow after working on your harddrive?

Also: I see two instances of Outlook running. I've only got one and my memory utilization is about 30mb. You've got two totalling about 100mb.

Yeah, I did that 5 hours ago. Didn't notice any difference in performance to be honest... :-( I'm sure it also has something to do with Windows, this installation is over 6 months old and is probably very sick. I would have formatted it again but I don't think I will if I'm getting my tablet any time soon.

Yes well... what can I do about that? I only had one Outlook running, not sure what the other one was doing there but I closed it. The new instance of Outlook still uses about 80MB of memory, and so is Firefox which definitely shouldn't. I'm probably going to reinstall the latter as I think something went wrong when I upgraded from Firebird.
