Same here. Any suggestions? I'm planning to buy mine from pagecomputers.com
I 'm about to decide which tablet pc to buy. I have looked at a few models and the acer C302XMi-G is my favorite. After reading quite a few of the threads in this forum, I've almost change my mind.
Is it really that bad? Would you suggest buying one, or go for a different manufacturer, e.g. Toshiba?

I have had mine for over a month, I have not had any of the problems I have read about in the forum. It is a quality machine IMHO. The pen works well but the machine is heavy if you expect to walk around using it, on a desk or on your knee its fine. The screen is nice and sharp and the hinge mechanism works well and seems solid. My only complaint is the way acer partition and format the hard drive, the boot partition is 46GB formatted as FAT32 and they have a second 10.5GB FAT32 partition. This really requires re-installation or you can convert to NTFS but this leads to lower performance and increased fragmentation.
I have had mine for about 2 weeks and love the machine I haven't had any sticky keys or jumping mouse pointers. I am a college student and the wireless LAN has much better reception than my previous laptop. I recomend it 100% the tablet works great and the battery life is great. I used partition magic 8.0 to delete that 10.5GB of junk and convert it to NTFS I left the the main drive in FAT32 because the recovery disks will put it back to FAT32 if you format the drive anyways. the only solution for that it to obtain a copy of XP tablet and reformat and install a that version and not the recovery disk version. The end result is the same except recovery leaves you with FAT32 and a new version of XP tablet can lead you with NTFS.

Hi Bygoch.
I've already raved about the 302XMI elsewhere on this board, but I'll say it again-this is the best machine out there. No complaints (serious ones anyway). Your should seriously consider the XMI-g if you're going to go this route - you'll appreciate the extra disk space, extra ram, 802.11g, DVD burner, etc., that you get with the extra bucks.
The reality is that all of the competition involves 12 inch screens. Yes, that makes it lighter, but unless you're a doctor, you're probably not going to notice the difference. By contrast, you will notice the extra real estate in screen size.
I tend to use the pen for programs that are not typing-intensive: for example, I started this email out using the handwriting and got frustrated. That's not a function of the tablet as much as it is the software and my handwriting. But I will take handwritten notes and I find I am much more functional with the tablet in day-to-day life. It's become an extension of me. The battery is great, and while people have had some problems (notably with the cursor moving to the bottom right of the screen - I confess I have had that happen perhaps twice), all in all it's a great product.
Go for it!

I've had the 302xMi-G for about two weeks now as well and am loving it. Absolutely great unit. I played around a bit with the GateWay M275XL and the CompaqTC1100, but am very glad I decided on this one.
As Zepcom says, this unit is a tad heavy to carry around all day on your arm. I read a bunch of reviews about people complaining about the weight and discounted them as being weak sissy-girls. Well, I'm not a weak sissy-girl, but this thing is frickin' heavy. For my use (as a pen-enabled laptop) it doesn't bother me too much as it spends most of it's time sitting on a desk or conference table. But compared to the tiny and nimble CompaqTC1100, it's an anchor. If my main use was going to be walking around with it all day, I'd definitely think twice before choosing it.
The extra screen size is very nice, it's fast and that DVD drive is [u]very</u> handy. The built-in wireless 802.11g has worked flawlessly since day one.
Hope this has been of some help.
Cheers,
Ed T.
All the features that crazEd mentioned plus the fact that
this is one of the few convertibles which for me as a student
is also going to serve as a desktop/laptop replacement.
I will use my C302 ( when i get it this summer) for note taking and everything else college students use it for.
So I dont have to buy a laptop to leave in my dorm and a
slate to take ( annotate) notes.
And, since I will be using it on the desk or on my lap
all the time, the weight is not an issue.
Plus it has one of the best battery lifes (5 hr+)
and you can double that almost by adding a 2nd modular battery.
So the weight concern should NOT really be a user's concern,
UNLESS you plan on using it in field and walking around with
it in your hand for several hours. Which most people dont.
Majority of the people who buy tablets, really dont carry them around anyways, unless you are required to do so at work
or because of some field class.
Sorry for the long rant, but people get stuck on the weight
too much, even though they probably will never Walk and Write
on the tablet at the same time. :)
Hello All!
I am about to buy a C302XMI-G, I am concerned with the good and bad experiences I am reading in this forum. Is there a particular manufacturing batch or serial number range that I shall avoid when ordering this unit? or Should I request to have the unit tested before vendor ships it to prevent a lemon? Any recommendations? please email me at mgeorgelos@yahoo.com Thanks for your input.
All with a G should be fine.
I´m extremely happy with mine. C302G.
No problems at all. Wi-fi, smartcard reader, DVD burning ... everithing works well. Haven´t experienced any of the mentioned problems.
Got mine on March 10th, 2004 from CDW.
Small details - I agree with Scotcall FAT32 & disk partition. I converted to NTFS with convert and haven´t really needed to defrag too much.
