Default Hi, I'm thinking of buying a tablet PC and le

    Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a tablet PC and leaving my old Dell Inspiron 8200 out for EBay. The only thing is that although i like the idea of taking my notes by hand again, i still need a desktop replacement power (or as much as i can get) and i could not stand having a small screen. After using those qualifications i narrowed it down to the Acer c300 and the Gateway M275 series. At first i was leaning toward the Acer, because long ago i had a bad time using gateways. After hanging on the Acer message board for a while, though i found the best warranty they offered was accident protection, but what that meant was one free repair and then a 150 dollar deductible for the next year on repairs. Gateway on the other hand i found offered a more normal you break we fix it plan. This was a must for me, being that I’m 14 that was the best thing that my dell offered me. Although it broken often because of flaws, the one or two times it broke because of me they fixed it no problem. This made the gateway win me over. So what is everyone’s opinion on this? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    thanks for the help,

    dan

If you live in a state where you can get the accidental protection on the Gateway then do it. I've seen people with a month left on their warranty bring them in for service after a car had run them over and they've replaced it. The M275 is a nice machine and while it's a Gateway, it's also a computer and computers break. Right now, all these computers are the same, the only thing that distinguishes them is the service. So I think that should be a major factor in picking.

that depends what you need it for. If you're going to utilize the tablet pc function then yes it's worthwhile. If you just want a notebook that's different from everyone elses, stick with a regular notebook. Whatever you do, stay away from Dell's inspiron home line. They're just plain crappy.

i'll vouch for that one, mine is getting replaced by them right now. When i get it back its going right to the acution block.
