I've seen a couple of references to the M1400 being engineered to withstand repeated four foot drops to concrete. This puts it almost in the same league as the ToughBook. However, the press release doesn't mention this, and I also didn't see it in the brochure or the specs on the web site.

So, Paul from Motion, is this correct?

Where did people get this info if not from the press release or marketing collateral? Or did I just miss it somewhere?

I remeber reading about the repeated drop testing of the M1400 somewhere on the Motion site just before completing my online order. Now I can't seem to find the link in the Motion website where it mentioned the drop testing but I think it was in relation to the added insurance offered on the site by SystemGuard. I will keep searching for the info.

There is nothing that we have received (as a Motion VAR) that would indicate the M1400 is any more rugged than its predecessor. We work with other tablets/laptops as well and at a minimum, to be "rugged" a computer needs to have no moving parts, be sealed against weather and survive multiple drops onto plywood covered concrete.

This makes sense to me given the same dimensions and different endcaps, though you never know what changes could have been made internally to the chassis to toughen it up. What was/is known about the M1300's ruggedness specification/testing if anything?

Rugged Tablets & laptops do have moving parts. Most have shock mounted HDDs.

Not to mention the external moving part of a hinged screen in most cases. [:-)]

    Hi,

I posted a reply to this in the General TPC Discussion forum.. I've spoken to a few Engs here and none can recall a 4' drop test... One comment was a corner drop of ~3' pretty much nuked a TPC... If anyone has a pointer to a written reference point me to it....

This is the only reference I have found. But I remember reading about that on the day it was released.

Going back to my previous post, I could swear there was a "plug" after placing my web order for the MotionGuard insurance that went something like "even though the system has been through engineering tests, still it is a good idea to purchase the added protection from theft, etc." Of course it wasn't stated in quite that way, but maybe I was just hallucinating in my excitement over order yet another Tablet PC. :D:D

    Hi,
I have a Query into our Eng. group. As soon as I receive a reply I will post an
    "official" Mot. response.
