Default Does anyone know when the release date of the 3r

Does anyone know when the release date of the 3rd gen. tablets will be out? I am thinking of getting one for school next year but the release date seems to be after August when school begins. I like the offerings by Toshiba and i dont think i could buy anything until i know what they are going to offer. I checked and the release date for the M200 was 11/1. I would rather not wait that long, but i dont think i could buy something that i knew was going to be discontinued in a few months.

    Thanks,
    Jason

I am in the EXACT same situation as you. I really dont know if i should get one now or wait it out, cause i DEF need a comp by the time i leave for school. I'm going to Northwestern whcih starts really late - Sep 19 - so hopefully i'll be able to wait it out, but we'll see. Keep us all posted on what you decide to do.

That will always be the case. Find the best tablet that suits your needs and buy it. The best time to jump in is now,

I bet many of the tablets with fans will wait for the new Dothan processor -- higher speeds & lower power dissipation. They are supposed to be due out in May but who knows?!?

The "who knows?" is why I second Rob's advice.

Ditto here. There are very capable tablets, both slate and clamshell that will do what you need them to do now. And frankly, if new tablets are arriving soon, be prepared for a price drop in the near future. What student would pass up the opportunity to have a little extra beer money in their pocket?

    For anyone considering a purchase...

I purchased a fully loaded M1300VA and 2 weeks later I found a reseller's website with the M1400 listed. Thats fine by me. I'm really happy to have my tablet on its way:D, and realize that everything I buy (digicam, tv, cpu, car, etc., etc...) will be obsolete within about a year or less.

Believe me, the may be no such thing as "the perfect" time to purchase a tablet, so why delay any further? Just find one that does everything that you need it to, and join the IFT!

I consider the Toshiba M200 as a 2.5 / 3rd generation tablet pc due to its high resolution screen. Best thing, it is out now!

In fact, I noticed on the web site that Toshiba has dropped its prices substantially in the last few weeks or so - the 1.7G processor is now only a $200 option instead of $600, the 7200RPM drive is now $250 instead of $350, the RAM is cheaper, etc. So you can get a 1.7G CPU with a Gig of RAM and a 7200RPM disk for only a little over $3k.
