OK, so I'm totally and compeletly sold out to the concept of the tablet PC...three weeks and I can't exist without it being within arm's reach.

This brings up a major paranoid fear...as a decade long Palm user, I've always used some form of screen protection. It's saved my posterior more than a few times. What do you power users do for protection? Or am I just being overly cautious? :D

A screen protector is definitely a good idea. It protects your investment.

There are several companies that offer protectors for the X41. Do a search here if you want indepth info.

But I would knock it down to two depending on how much money you are willing to spend. The top pick, hands down, is a Writesheild. But they are really expensive. I couldn't justify paying that much for a screen protector.

The option that I chose was to order one from Strong Engineering. They are relatively inexpensive and are a good bang for buck option.

What I like about them:

-price
-drag on pen feels really natural
-easy to apply to screen

What I dont like:

-screen adds glare, but Ive gotten used to is by just turning up the LCD brigtness a bit
-adhesive can look a little ugly

Don't buy a writeshield.
Not only is it a pain in the ass to apply, once you take it off, it's ruined as it gets bent and even a slight bend can cause a lot of bubbles and such, which completely ruins the product.
Also if you ever have to take it off for repair reasons and such, they will not get you a new one, even if you have purchased 3 writeshields from them.
I visited their company too- very small company and really nothing special... I just cannot believe they charge 50-70 bucks for a ****ing piece of plastic film.

I personally installed a Strong Engineering for my friend's X41T, as Defiant said, bang for the buck.

I've heard a lot of praise of WriteShield, while I think it's too expensive and difficult to install, the quality, from what I heard, is really top-notched.

Anyway, if the machine is already >2 years old I probably wouldn't bother to install any protector on it, as the naked screen looks best, but if it's new I do prefer a little bit pre-caution.

I'm going to recommend the Writeshield. We've sold a ton of them and the only time we had to replace them is when they were physically damaged (4 year old crayoned on it, keyboard dropped on it). This is a big advantage over the others that need replacing every 6 months. Also, no glue - they are held on by static cling.

That being said, I don't disagree that they are the most expensive and can be a challenge to put on, however I think they are well worth it.

The product from Strong Engineering is indeed a good product for the money! I have used it for 9 months and am still on my first screen protector ( I purchased two).

I frequently give the tablet to students to solve problems and I do not want a scratched screen. the Strong product works just fine and it's easily replaced. Buy a few ; they are cheap!

A I allready stated in another thread with generall questions about my X60T, I'm using normal overhead films to protect my screen from scratches. I can tell that visibility is not limited with this solution but the anti-glare character of the display is no longer available, of course - looks like a glossy now. The ink-feeling is very good for my taste - only the cutting to the exact dimension is a little bit tricky.
