(Editor's note: this is a press release from X2 Computing that was emailed to TabletPCBuzz)

X2 Computing, a leading provider of mobile computing solutions, in partnership with XRiver Technologies LLC, has launched an innovative range of charging solutions for the new breed of tablet computers. This portable charging solution enables up to 25 tablets to be slotted into individual docking bays and simultaneously charged without having to connect any power leads. PowerCRATE can be specified for use with X2’s range of tablets as well as corporate and education tablets from other major manufacturers. It can also be used with consumer brands such as the Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy and new tablets including the forthcoming Microsoft Surface.

PowerCRATE can be used for on demand charging or programmed to start at predetermined times and take advantage of lower night-time electricity tariffs to reduce running costs. LED status indicators show the battery charge status of each device while forced air circulation, with integral digital thermal monitoring, maintains optimum operating temperatures. Optional lockable, vented lids and security cables protect the tablets against theft when charging. Also available is an ATA 300 compliant high protection lid with built-in handle and wheels if transportation, including by air freight, to other locations is required.

According to Francis Davis, Sales and Marketing Director of X2 Computing: “PowerCRATE provides a robust and elegant charging solution that will enable organisations to ensure the highest level of availability for tablet computers. It also provides a safer, more secure way of transporting, storing and charging multiple devices as well as taking up considerably less space than traditional solutions.”

PowerCRATE has a rigid, fire retardant polyethylene case and measures 315mm (W) x 920mm (H) x 360mm (D). It weighs around 35 Kg when fully loaded and can be stacked up to four units horizontally or two units vertically. A range of additional accessories are available including mounting plinths to raise the height of PowerCRATE for easier device access and wheeled bases. Trim panels can also be specified for permanent and semi-permanent PowerCRATE installations in hospitals, schools, retailers, bingo and other environments.

X2 Computing also supplies a range of other customized tablet charging solutions for fixed locations that can be specified in any colour to meet customer requirements. Charging solutions can also be built into lockable ventilated cabinets providing the highest level of security.

Microsoft, which introduced Windows-based Tablet PC technology 10 years ago, has announced its competitor to the iPad. Not surprisingly, it is a generic looking tablet that will run a low-end version of their still-not-released Windows 8 operating system.

What does it cost? No information.

What software ("apps") will be immediately available and unique? No information.

How long will the battery last? Dunno.

When will Microsoft learn that we live in a world where people expect products to be available when announced? "Coming soon" just doesn't cut it anymore.

Last, there are a number of great companies with Windows Tablet PCs that Microsoft could throw additional money at to continue and improve their products. The Motion CL900, Fujitsu Q550, and Motorola Xoom are already offering Windows tablets in the $999 or lower price range. Helping them market these tablets better as competitors to the iPad in the corporate world would help staunch the flow of Apple products into the enterprise market.

    Sigh...

New Editor for iOS is released
    June 14, 2012

Hi everyone! We are happy to inform you that a new editor for iPhone/iPad is already available in AppStore. Just install MobileNoter 3.0 and you're done!
It has passed a really long beta-testing phase and as a result we are sure that all new features work perfectly in the published version. Here is the new editing kit:
    • Better cursor positioning. A cursor appears exactly where you touch the screen, you will probably no longer even need to use the arrow buttons for cursor position correcting.
    • Edit your notes with a magnifying glass. This might be very convenient, especially on a small iPhone screen.
    • Now it is possible to resize the outlines and pictures just like in OneNote on a PC.
    • Text select/copy/paste feature has finally been added. Enjoy the easy way to change font color and style, and to replace text.
    • Undo or redo your last actions. You can undo all your last actions since the last page saving.
Now the MobileNoter's editor can do everything you can possibly imagine! Manage your notes the same way you used to do it on your PC. Give it a try and you won't regret it.

    Visit www.mobilenoter.com for more details.

N-trig drivers that are compatible with Windows 8 Consumer Preview were posted on N-trig's Support page earlier today.

Look for Win8 compatible, N-trig Gen 3.5 drivers to be available pretty soon.

N-trig Gen 3.5 hardware is found in the Fujitsu T580 and Q550, the Motion Computing CL900 and other fairly recent tabletPCs.

Not sure if this first release will work with the HP Slate 500 (and Slate 2) because technically, these slates are Gen 3.0. Keep your fingers crossed on this one!

Owners of the Dell XT and XT2, and the HP tx-2 may also have updated drivers coming their way, but may have to wait an extra couple of weeks.

Watch the N-trig Support page as they will likely show up there first...
