I am looking for an older PDA that has a card slot (any) and is able to hot sync by USB. Color screen not important. E mail me if you know of anything.
I wish someone would make something like the Zire but with an expansion slot and a backlight. Thanks!
I have an Ipaq 3670 I was thinking of selling, but I never bought the expansion pack with the card slot (they run 40 and under on ebay, but i never had a use for it). Might be overkill though if you are looking for something very basic.

I have 2 PDAs which might fit your requirements. The first is a Treo 90 from Handspring (Palm OS). It does have a color screen (low-res) and an SD card slot. Second is an HP 1910 (Pocket PC), once again color screen and an SD slot. Both are in as-new condition. I really wasn't considering selling them, but I mostly use my Sony Clie UX50 and my C11TCi. Let me know if your are interested. They deserve a good home rather than sitting in my desk collecting dust.

drxacto,
If the battery life is good on the HP 1910 I would be very interested. I would prefer the pocket pc so it's easier to view word docs. E-mail me when you get a chance.

Flyboy,
I don't know what's going on with the email service on this forum. I sent an email on or before Feb 18 with details followed by my posting on that date.I also emailed you prior to posting on Feb 20. At any rate, the advertised battery life is something like 5 hours. This is about what I would get with backlight on 80% or so. My usual use consisted of brief intermittent use during the day to look up contacts, statutes and cases I had stored on the iPaq. Although I recharged each evening, I could go 2 days without recharging with no worries. The screen is bright enough that you could easily use the device at 40% or so brightness without eye-strain.
You may email me directly at the following address to facilitate this conversation if you so desire(remove NOSPAM):

I have an iPaq 5450 that I'm selling. I simply don't use it since getting my Tablet. The 5450 is in perfect shape, and I'm including a USB charger/synch cable and CompactFlash II sleeve, for $375+shipping. For $400+shipping, I'll include a Targus expandable keyboard with adapter.
Any interest, email coppockm@comcast.net.

Thank you wynand32 but that's a little more than I'm able to spend on a PDA. I find that I still use a PDA quite a bit for phone numbers and appointments. The reason is that it seems to be overkill to turn on the tablet just to find a phone number. My other idea was that instead of having to print something (incase your battery is dead or you just dont want to take you tablet out) you can put it on the PDA and just have it in your pocket. Plus, tablets aren't instant on yet (though they are pretty close from standby). We'll just have to wait until they can put windows XP on flash memory! (not to sure how this works though) Thanks,

Have you considered a Rex or Rex-Pro - for this purpose? I use one with my TC1000 as a "shirt pocket" PDA (although it is "read-only") - but great for appointment reminders and contacts etc.

If you're looking for a simple PDA for contacts and appointments, I have an Oregon Scientific ECHO unit 512K - unopened and still in its original packaging - that you can have for $25 plus shipping. It comes with sych software for Outlook, ACT!, and others. Very neat little (3.5"x2") unit. It comes with a serial cable, software, 'leather' case - as I said, brand new.
I also have a Handspring Platimum (8Mb) - refurbished by Handspring in an unopened box. Should have everything with it. You can have it for $65 + shipping.
Let me know if you're interested.

I have a Compaq iPaq 3650 (color) that I don't use anymore. It is USB sync and I have the expansion pack that adds a CF card slot.

Let me update what I'm looking for if I may. A slim PDA (like the palm V) with USB sync cable, any type of built in expansion slot (for transferring files from the tablet to the PDA quickly), a descent battery life, IR port and capabilities to read word documents included. Hoping not to pay much over about $150 US. Thank you all for your responses and please keep them coming.

Let me expand on the rex option:
- more info on the whole thing here: http://www.rex6000.org/
- it is a PC-CARD sized PDA (VERY SLIM!!!) which fits in the shirt pocket and can do contacts, to-do, calender, memos and other PDA functions.
- you synch-it with the tablet-pc by inserting it into the pc-card slot! (no cable or other memory slots required)
- very quickly synched and in the shirt-pocket
- available cheaply off ebay now
- VERY decent battery life (months on two coin cells)
- no ir but is it needed?
- possible to read word documents (I think! - I only read .txt files)

Yes I have one-one of the earliest models and it works great-I can even synch it with Tablet planner (via outlook).
Unfortunately it is no longer in production so only though the likes of E-bay etc. will you find one. I will try and post a review on my website when I can.

Do you still enjoy it considering there are all these little problems as mentioned on the support sites? It seems great but I wonder if all the little quirks would drive one crazy. Let me know and help me make a wise decision. Thanks,

I guess my two main concerns are:
-is the screen big enough or does it hurt your eyes.
-in calendar, day view, you cannot scroll, doesn't this get really annoying?
Thanks.

Just a thought - but have you looked at HP Jornadas? Granted they are a bit old and heavy (remind you of a scientific calculator), but they do work nicely. I'm personally using a 548 bought of ebay and love the darn thing! Cheers!

for me it is fine - crystal clear really. I don't know what you mean about scrolling-all appointments are visible. I have the older Rex-3 and it is so unobtrusive it is great!

Do you have a "day view" in your appointments calendar? If so, can you scroll that page? Thank you.

I guess the only thing I need to know now is can the rex 6000 sync with windows XP? I've heard there are problems, any insight? Thanks,
I just bought a Rex 5500 off ebay. Not sure if it'll suit my needs or if I have needs, but the price was pretty good. I can't help thinking how cool it will be to pull a PDA out of my tablet. It's like my tablet is pregnant and gave birth to a little baby tablet. :D The 5500 I know can sync with XP so the 6000 should not have any trouble. Flyboy, if the the Rex 5500 does not work out for me, would be interested in it? It's a 5000 but it's got the nifty metal frame like the 6000.

Well I have the original Rex-3!! and that synchs OK (I synch with Tablet Planner via Outlook)
Mine is showing its age now (still works but the paintwork is showing it's age - in fact I scraped off all the black paint and it now has a shiny silver look ;-})

The 6000 uses different sync software, thats why I am not buying it right now.
I got my rex the other day. I must say it is a nifty little tool. It syncs perfectly with outlook 2003 and has some nice little features. It also fits in the business card slot in my willow case which provides easy access on the go as I can operate the rex through the little plastic cover with ease and without taking off the bag or taking out the rex. All in all I am very impressed.
I just bought a batch of 15 lithium batteries for it which should last me the life of the device. Ebay rocks.

Does you rex have a touch screen and what sync software does it use? The old one works well with XP but the new Intellisync apparently doesn't work so well.
No, there's no touch screen. It works very well. I use the sync software to input data. It uses the truesync software, the old one.

Do you use TabletPlanner? If so I have managed to setup my Rex so that it synchs with TabletPlanner (by way of outlook which I don't use fr any other purpose - I use Eudora for email)

Hi, I have an iPaq 3870 with lots of extras from expansion packs to expansion cards, keyboard, game software cd, etc. Email me if you are interested and never bought one. Sorry, just found this post site cause I now use a tablet pc for everything.
