Hi, I'm new to this site and forum.

UPDATE [5:52pm, 2/10/2004]: If you tried sending me private mail through tabletpcbuzz.com between 1pm and 5pm, that probably didn't work. I tried sending myself test mail by clicking on my username (yirenng) and following link "Click to send an E-Mail". I did this twice, thirty minutes ago and have received neither of those test emails. If you want to contact me directly, please send email to yirenng@hotmail.com. Thanks.

I am selling a brand-new, factory-sealed Toshiba M200 with accessories (see details below). I would like to start flexible negotiation around $3800, which will already save you several hundred dollars over retail sale with taxes.

I checked prices online (toshiba.com, froogle.com, cnet.com) and I encourage you to do the same. The best I found was $4000 - $4200. If you find a better price than what I quoted I'll be happy to consider your best offer.

Here are the details of what I'm selling.

1. Toshiba M200 with:
1.7Ghz Pentium M
1 GB RAM (2 x 512)
60 GB (7200 RPM) HD
2. Advanced Port Replicator III (PA3314U-1PRP)
3. Extra lithium battery for M200 (PA3191U-3BRS)
4. Toshiba 3-in-1 Tablet PC Leather Portfolio

Close-ups available on request. All items are still factory-sealed except for the carrying case.

Since this is a lot of money, here are my conditions on the sale:

1. I will only accept payment in one of three forms:
i) While meeting in-person (I live in South Bay, North
California, USA), through money orders or certified
bank check.
ii) Money paid up-front (I won't ship till it clears in the
bank). I am a grad student at a good school, and can
get you references and whatever personal information you
need in order to feel comfortable about this. I am always
nervous when I pay up-front for on-line trades, so I
appreciate that you would be too and will work with you
so that it all works out fine.
iii) Through an escrow service (but I would ask you to pay
the escrow fee). The only escrow service I will accept
is www.escrow.com so that we can both be sure it's
legitimate. I checked, and they charge $100 - $125 for
the service. I would prefer not to use escrow, as it
will take 2-3 weeks longer for me to get the money, and
it will cost you money.

2. Buyer pays shipping if not local. I would prefer to deal locally, and am happy to meet you in person.

3. The items are sold as-is. They are brand new in unsealed factory boxes and have been sitting on my apartment floor since last week. If we meet in person I'll be happy to have you break the seals and power it up before we part ways. If I ship, they become your responsibility once they leave my possession. If there is a problem (which I have no reason to believe there will be), you will deal with Toshiba or the shipping company directly.

As you can see, I would prefer to deal with someone local.

If these conditions seem like they could be okay to you or you'd like to discuss further, please email me. I am ready to ship as soon as payment is arranged. You could have this by the end of the week! And I could get back to research rather than trying to sell this very nice machine that is of no use to me.

I believe the why was referring to why you are selling it.

Ah, yes, sorry.

Why am I selling? I won the system as part of an award, but already have a new laptop through work. Details to interested buyers off-list. Everything is up-and-up.

A tablet is of little use to me for what I do. Instead, I want to sell it so that I can buy a replacement for my 6 year old desktop system.

Far out lol.. u have one sweet setup there!! and you won it all.. I am still in school.. and was wondering if you would be interested in splitting? I would like ot buy the port replicator alone..

Does it have Office 2003 installed? What about Bluetooth?

The price I listed is without Office 2003. I have unopened Office Pro 2003 CDs as well (no box, though), just CDs in a paper sleeve and plastic. If you want I am happy to discuss, but I might just keep it myself.

I don't know if it has bluetooth, though I think not. If anyone knows how to tell from the box label, here it is:

Hmm, I looked at the "Ebay scam" posting in this forum. Sounds like bad stuff.

Just wanted to say that I can provide you with enough personal ID and references for you to check yourself. That info is just for serious buyers, however, not the forum.

Thanks.

Hi krisk,

I might be interested, but would prefer to keep the whole set as one (less hassle). I'll let you know if I get a serious buyer who doesn't want the replicator. If you like, feel free to contact me off-forum through my listed email and we can discuss further.

I agree that this is a nice set-up, but I don't think most people on these boards would pay much more for this than they would pay for a 1.5/512 setup.

There are posts all over that the $600 price of the processor upgrade is no where near worth what Toshiba sells it for, nor does it make a noticable difference. Most people buying the unit from Toshiba wouldn't pay their prices for the RAM either - all you need to do is go directly to Kingston or Crucial and you can get a 512 stick for the M200 for $125. This is way less than what Toshiba charges.

Factor this and include the free shipping offered by Toshiba, and you have a machine that you likely won't sell too close to retail (unless someone doesn't know better). I do agree though that it is really nice....

The asking price of $3800 is designed to be a GENUINE savings of $500+ over the best internet deal right now. If you can find better than what I'll show below (and it would be a pain to actually do all the things to get this price), then post your math.

First, I agree, this is a high-end system. If you want to only pay for a 1.5/512 set-up, then unfortunately I can't help you out.

The system with cheapest memory option (2x256MB) and all the accessories, plus tax and shipping (to CA) is $4032 from Toshiba. Check it yourself. Toshiba is not offering free shipping as far as I can see, but it's pretty cheap -- $20 for 2-day delivery. However, there's at least a 7-10 day wait and others on the buzz will tell you that you should expect to wait much longer.

2 x 512 DIMMs cost $338 from Kingston right now. I'll assume you can sell the 2x256MB Toshiba DIMMs for $70, but I doubt it. ddw60610 posted on 2/4 in this very forum, and don't know if he's sold it yet. I just don't see where the market would be, since everyone with a machine that could use the RAM would already have that much ram from the dealer and no free slots.

Anyways, even if you could sell the 2x256, that's $4300 all up, which is $500 more than my asking price.

This is a genuinely good deal, if you're in the market for this high-end system. This will be too rich for most, even with the discount.

I've already received two offers, just a bit on the low side.

One more thing:

1.7GHz processor and 7200 RPM HD do incur a high premium over their slower counterparts. But you can't upgrade these features later -- you are stuck with what you get for the life of the machine. So you might want to consider the relatively small performance increase as it will affect your use over the next few years.

Already there are forum members trying to figure out if they can pull out the 1.5GHz processor and "slot in" in the faster 1.7GHz chip bought from a cheap 3rd party vendor. Some think it's possible, others not. I think so far no one has been brave enough to try.

UHmm.... You can upgrade the HDD just not hte CPU.. However it all depends on whether the CPU is socketed or not..
