Hi,
2 weeks ago I bought this nice C302XMi here in Germany.
I had to buy it here since my employer had to lease it.
But until today I cannot say that I had a real pleasure
using it.[cry]
The TPC came with Windows XP in German and apart from a
few words I don't understand German (yet).
Is there anybody who can sell me the English Version.
Acer Germany is simply unwilling to help me, they say
they don't have an English version and tell me to call
the Ireland Service Center. Ireland on the other hand
tells me that I have to call Germany since I bought it
there.[hothead]
I even called MS and asked them whether they can sell
me the software.
They can't, it is an OEM only product.
But they gave at least one usefull advise. My current
license allows me to install any language.
Which means I can even use copies from the original
Recovery CDs as long as I remain a license owner.[^]
I just hope now somebody can either sell me the original
Recovery CDs for the C302XMi or help me with a copy.[unworthy]
This post is really my last hope. If not I am going to
return it to the dealer on Wednesday and get myself a
normal notebook where I can install my old english Win2k.:(

Jens

Crikey - this sounds like a real pain. It would seem a shame to have to go back to a normal laptop just because of this, if you like the idea of a tablet.
If you are prepared to bend a few rules I'm sure there are probably places on the web and p2p networks where you could download the English version. I'm not sure how legit this would be, but it would seem to be morally ok if you are using it *instead* of the German version which you have effectively purchased.

Hi Toby,
thanks for the advice. I actually tried to find some sites. And those sites where I might have some hope are blocked by the company firewall. I will need to find some time and go to an internet cafe where I can also burn CDs.
I would not need to bend any rules actually. As long as I am a legal license holder I am allowed to install from copied CDs as many times as I want. I am even allowed to use those Asian pirate CDs as long as it is the same OS version. Only the use without license and the selling is illegal.
I found this out when I called MS in Germany and bugged them with all those questions.
Everything has to be legal on this notebook anyway, since it is company owned and there are regular automated audits when I log into the company net.
It is actually my company that is putting pressure on me to return the notebook. They just want me to give back my old notebook asap, but before, I need to get a new one. I was thinking to go for the Toshiba M200 instead, but then I got a straight NO from my boss.
So I still hope somebody could help in this problem.

Hi,
I just had to return my 2 week old Acer C302XMi to the dealer.
With no English XP Tablet Ed. available here in Germany, I just couldn't use it.
Now my boss has ordered a T40 for me, like for everybody else in the company.
But one day I will be back here again with a Tablet PC.
Maybe I will buy one for personal use.

hi
i bought myself a c111 in china and a chinese version of the tablet os was included and i can't speak or understand chinese
but the shop managed to get for me an english copy from hong kong (burned copy, but after license it should be ok)
so i had very much luck
after i gave them 4 chances
1. they said it's english, but it was chinese
2. they installed the MUIP (language packs from ms for winxp), but not everything was english
3. they got the real english os, but unfortunaly the cd was damaged
4. they got a working copy
after me they decided not to sell any tablet with the english os again, cos i made them so much troubles and i also went with the price so down
p.s.: i was their first costumer who bought a tablet [^]
