Awhile back I ripped the mini-pci card out of a Linksys router and put it into my tclooo so I could have wireless 802.llg . It worked fine.

Just put it into the TC1100 and before the o/s loads the bios says "unauthorized communications card remove and restart "

Oh well, the HP card is on order anyway and in the meantime the Linksys external PC card is working fine

You seem to frequently use the L key in place of 1's. How may I help you alleviate this problem?

James,
If you could describe how to write a "1" (one) in the Tablet Input Panel, so it (the TIP) will reliably distinguish between

1 (one)
l (L)
I ( as in me, myself and ...)
" (double quote)
' (single quote/apostrophe)

that would be a huge help.

I am also just getting used to the slight difference in the pen/digitizer with the TC1000 and TC1100. Also, the TC1100 came with a different version of the TIP, quote:[i]Originally posted by James Sonne

I hear ya. Sometimes it seems like it'd be easier to write "TC one thousand".

I've been using messageEase, and I think I may like it better than handwriting, just takes a little while to get the hang of.

Dont have a tablet yet but the spec docs say there is a setting in the bios for this.

BIOS WLAN lock - prevents the replacement with unauthorized WLAN cards

Maybe you can check this and the Linksys will work.

Thanks for that information.

I'll take a look next time I reboot the machine - but I doubt that they would allow you to change this: otherwise there wouldn't be a lot of reason for having this "lock".

A wild guess is that this has something to do with FCC compliance. I doubt it has anything to do with some desire on HP's part to sell a/b/g cards.

IBM has a similar situation with some of their a/b/g capable machines - that is, you have to use an "official" IBM card. I'm not concerned here because HP or IBM, the prices for the authorized cards are not excessive.

UPDATE:
I looked around in the bios => no obvious way to turn off the "lock".

Anyway, this is not much of an issue for me. I can do what I need to until the new HP card arrives.
